Geophysicist - Contract Position in Oil & Gas SectorAn exceptional opportunity has arisen for a skilled Geophysicist to join our team on an 18-month contract based in Kampala, Uganda. This role is pivotal in supporting the development of the oilfields as part of Uganda's oil development project. The successful candidate will work alongside a diverse team to ensure efficient drilling operations and optimal reservoir management, playing a crucial role in both the operational success and strategic development of our project.Key Responsibilities:
  • Work in collaboration with geologists, reservoir engineers, and drilling teams to prepare for well drilling operations. This includes detailed planning and simulations to predict geological scenarios and mitigate risks.
  • Provide geophysical support during drilling operations to safely deliver wells according to objectives. This support is vital for real-time decision-making and ensuring the accuracy and safety of well paths.
  • Manage and analyze geophysical data in collaboration with the Geoinformation team. This involves using sophisticated software to interpret seismic data and generate accurate subsurface models.
  • Integrate well results during the development drilling campaign to update reservoir models and design subsequent wells. This iterative process is key to enhancing extraction strategies and optimizing field development.
  • Contribute to required documentation and reporting for Local Authorities. This includes ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and maintaining transparent communication with governmental bodies.
  • Engage in continuous improvement initiatives and coach junior Geophysicists. This includes leading workshops, providing training sessions, and developing best practices within the team.
Required Skills and Experience:
  • BSc or MSc degree in Geophysics with a minimum of 8 years experience as a reservoir Geophysicist. A strong educational background is essential for the complex analysis and decision-making required in this role.
  • Proficiency in seismic QC, processing/inversion, structural interpretation, Time-to-depth conversion, well preparation, uncertainty analysis, and reservoir characterization. These technical skills are crucial for effective data analysis and integration into actionable insights.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in multicultural teams with strong communication skills. The candidate must be adept at both verbal and written communication, facilitating cross-disciplinary collaboration and ensuring that all team members are aligned with project goals.
