We are looking for a skilled and motivated BESS Design Engineer to join our clients growing Energy team, supporting the design and development of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across the UK and internationally. You will play a key role in the technical design of BESS installations, from early-stage feasibility and concept design through to construction and commissioning support.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work on cutting-edge energy storage projects and contribute to the energy transition in a dynamic and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and review technical designs for BESS systems, including single-line diagrams (SLDs), layout drawings and equipment specifications.
  • Support feasibility studies and concept design for grid-connected and hybrid energy storage projects.
  • Work closely with control systems engineers to ensure holistic and coordinated project designs.
  • Prepare and review employer's requirements, technical specifications, and design documentation.
  • Evaluate equipment and technology options including inverters, battery racks, HVAC, and fire suppression systems.
  • Support tendering, contractor evaluation, and review of design submissions.
  • Contribute to construction support, including responding to RFIs, reviewing as-built drawings, and performing site inspections as required.

The Ideal candidate will have:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Renewable Energy, or a related field.
  • Technical knowledge of BESS design, architecture, and grid integration.
  • Experience working on BESS or hybrid renewable energy projects (e.g. solar + storage).
  • Familiarity with key BESS components such as PCS, BMS, EMS, HVAC, and containerised solutions.
  • Proficiency in relevant software tools (e.g., AutoCAD, ETAP, Trimble)
  • Awareness of UK grid codes and DNO requirements is an advantage.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality technical outputs.
  • Enthusiasm to learn and grow within a collaborative and multi-disciplinary engineering team
