We are currently seeking a Lead Tax Specialist to join our team based in Houston, TX.

About the Job

As the Indirect Lead Tax Specialist you will be responsible for assisting in the implementation of the regional strategy of minimizing corporate tax. You will design, build, and optimize workstreams in concert with leading a small team within the tax/finance department of Technip Energies.

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated lead Indirect/Transaction Tax Specialist to join our growing Tax team. This role is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of indirect tax compliance, including Sales & Use Tax (with experience in VAT and GST a plus). The ideal candidate has a strong background in tax accounting, account reconciliations, and software implementations within an Oracle-based ERP environment.

This role requires a hands-on professional who is equally comfortable designing workflows and operating procedures as they are training others. Were looking for a team player who isnt afraid to roll up their sleeves, lead initiatives, and drive operational excellence in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Leadership
  • Provide accurate, timely tax advice to project teams on transaction tax rules procedures at the city, county/parish, and state levels.
  • Design and operate scalable tax workflows, internal controls, and compliance procedures.
  • Mentor, train and lead junior and other finance team members and business partners on indirect tax processes, workflows, and best practices.
  • Identify process inefficiencies and implement solutions to improve accuracy and efficiency.

Indirect Tax Compliance, Oversight, and Audit Defense:
  • Manage and ensure accurate and timely filing and payment of monthly, quarterly and annual U.S. sales and use tax, Trinidad VAT, and Canadian GST returns.
  • Monitor legislative changes and ensure compliance with relevant tax laws in applicable jurisdictions.
  • Maintain and review tax rates, rules, and logic within the ERP system and tax engines (e.g., Oracle, Avalara).
  • Draft and communicate guidance on tax regulations and legislative changes.
  • Provide audit support and manage documentation for internal and external tax audits.
  • Assess risk and implement controls to mitigate transaction tax exposure.

Tax Accounting & Reconciliation:
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations for indirect tax accounts across all entities.
  • Investigate and resolve variances, ensuring accurate balance and reporting, and compliance with internal control policies.

System & Process Implementation:
  • Lead and support the implementation of and enhancement of tax processes within an Oracle-based ERP.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to integrate tax solutions into finance, procurement, and billing workflows.

About You

Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in indirect/transaction tax, with multi-jurisdictional exposure.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. sales and use tax, VAT (Trinidad), and GST (Canada),principles, laws and compliance
  • Experience with Oracle ERP systems and tax automation tools and implementation (e.g., Avalara).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to lead projects, build processes, and drive results collaboratively.

Main Skills:
  • Proficiency in software applications including Oracle, Hyperion, Avalara, and Excel
  • Highly disciplined with the ability to work under strict deadlines.
  • Detail oriented with strong trouble-shooting and time-management skills.
  • Engineering and Construction in the Energy Transition industry experience preferred.
