We have a current opportunity for a Reliability Engineer on a contract basis. The position will be based on the Norfolk coast with a leading oil and gas operating company.

Job Description
The Reliability Engineer will be responsible for identifying and delivering initiatives to enhance equipment availability, extend asset life, and optimise maintenance strategies. The successful candidate will apply reliability engineering principles and data-driven methodologies to identify failure modes, recommend improvements, and ensure safe, compliant, and cost-effective operations in a high-hazard onshore environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain reliability models (e.g., RCM, FMEA,) for critical rotating and static equipment (compressors, pumps, heat exchangers, turbines).
  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) following any significant equipment failure or performance deviation; produce clear, actionable reports with lessons learned.
  • Lead failure mode, effects & criticality analyses (FMECA) to prioritise maintenance activities and drive design improvements.
  • Implement and oversee condition monitoring techniques (vibration analysis, oil analysis, thermography) to detect early signs of degradation.
  • Define KPI dashboards (MTBF, MTTR, availability) and use CMMS/EAM systems to capture, analyse, and report reliability data.
  • Collaborate with digital engineering teams to integrate IoT sensor data and advanced analytics into predictive maintenance models.
  • Develop and optimise preventative and predictive maintenance plans in line with industry best practices and HSE standards.
  • Provide engineering support to operations and maintenance teams during shutdowns, turnarounds, and major inspections
  • Review and challenge maintenance tactics, spare-parts strategy, and vendor recommendations to ensure cost-effective reliability outcomes.
  • Act as subject-matter expert for reliability within multidisciplinary project teams, ensuring new equipment and modifications are designed for maintainability.
  • Interface with Operations, Integrity, HSE, Procurement, and Technical Authority to align reliability initiatives with overall asset management strategies.
  • Deliver training and knowledge-sharing sessions on reliability tools and techniques to build capability across the plant workforce.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects (e.g., Six Sigma, Lean) focused on reducing unplanned downtime and maintenance costs.
  • Ensure compliance with UKCS regulations, Oil & Gas UK guidelines, and corporate asset integrity frameworks.
  • Keep abreast of emerging reliability technologies, best practices, and regulatory changes; recommend adoption where beneficial.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Reliability Engineering, or related engineering discipline
Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of reliability or rotating equipment engineering experience in the oil & gas sector, with at least 2 years offshore/UKCS exposure.
  • Proven track record in RCM, FMEA, RCA, and condition monitoring implementation.
  • Hands-on familiarity with CMMS/EAM platforms (e.g., SAP PM, Maximo).
Skills & Competencies
  • Strong understanding of gas processing equipment, hydraulic systems, and process safety principles.
  • Proficiency in reliability software tools
  • Excellent data analysis skills; able to translate complex datasets into practical reliability recommendations.
  • Able to influence stakeholders at all levels and drive change in a matrix organisation.
  • Strong report-writing and presentation skills.
  • Committed to HSE excellence; experienced in risk assessments and barrier management.
