Job Description

H+H seeks to hire an experienced Energy Manager (Grant Funded Position) to deliver large scale construction projects in alignment with NYC City's decarbonization and climate goals. The Energy Manager (Grant Funded Position) will report to the Director of Energy Management and be responsible for implementing complex energy projects and operations and maintenance ("O&M") measures across H+H's portfolio of facilities. Specifically, the Energy Manager (Grant Funded Position)will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the ongoing capital energy projects at the assigned H+H Facilities s. The Energy Manager (Grant Funded Position) will also implement expense-funded small sized energy projects through DCAS DEM's ExCEL Program.

General tasks and responsibilities will include but not limited to:
  • Delivering energy efficiency projects: Work closely with consultants and contractors, manage design and construction for energy efficiency projects, and ensure that projects are completed in a timely, cost-effective manner. Review, provide comments and make recommendations on design packages submitted by consultants.
  • Performing project tracking and reporting: Maintain project-related documentation, including work orders, scopes of work, cost proposals, invoices, project status sheets, and progress reports. Perform data collection and tracking necessary to ensure accurate, on-demand project reporting in various areas, including compliance with project schedules, budgets, and scopes and verified energy savings and emissions reductions.
  • Conducting site visits throughout the project implementation process: Make frequent field visits; verify and refine proposed scopes of work; facilitate consultants and contractors' walk-throughs; ensure projects' compliance with the scope of work and schedules outlined in contract documents; inspect completed work for project close-outs, and resolve technical project issues.
  • Performing capital project administrative functions: Manage and ensure successful completion of administrative tasks such as reviewing Certificate to Proceed packages and project registrations, authorizing change orders, initiating Purchase Orders, and reviewing, preparing, and approving payment requests.
  • Managing energy efficiency project scoping: Assess energy usage reduction opportunities at H+H facilities. Develop and review scopes of work for energy efficiency projects, working closely with contractors and consultants. Review completed energy audits, retro-cx studies, and feasibility reports for buildings to assist with project selection and provide recommendations regarding innovative alternative technologies.
  • Quantifying energy conservation opportunities: Perform technical calculations to estimate the expected energy savings, cost savings, and emissions reductions for energy efficiency projects. Prepare applications for grant funding requests.
  • Supporting project measurement and verification ("M&V"): Help develop M&V plans consistent with the International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol. Perform M&V activities to assess realized savings from completed energy projects or review M&V results.
  • Providing guidance and support for the Junior team members. Provide mentorship to junior team members on all aspects of energy construction projects, including project planning, scheduling, budgeting, procurement, construction management and quality control.
  • Assisting senior management in developing and implementing decarbonization strategies and plans, including setting goals, developing timelines, and identifying resources. With guidance, partner with various key stakeholders at the assigned facilities to strategize and implement ways to integrate energy efficiency into the operations, and into the goals and objectives of the facility management.
  • Supporting Design Build (DB) project solicitation process by assisting with following tasks: Develop and manage preliminary energy project contract scope, partake in RFQ, RFP and Contract development process for the H+H managed DB energy projects in close coordination with Supply Chain, Legal and Capital Leads of the relevant facilities.

Minimum Qualifications
1. A Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Healthcare, Hospital, Public or Business Administration, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Organizational Behavior or a related discipline and three (3) years of full-time experience planning, developing and monitoring programs, systems and/or procedures in support of administrative management initiatives, one (1) year of which must have been in a responsible managerial or supervisory capacity; or
2. A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in disciplines, as listed in "1" above and four (4) years of full-time experience, as outlined in "1" above, two (2) years of which must have been in a responsible managerial or supervisory capacity; or
3. A satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.

Department Preferences

Preference will be given to qualified candidates with the following knowledge, abilities, education, experience and/or skills:
  • A bachelor's degree in facilities management, engineering, architecture, energy management, construction project management, or a related field and at least five (5) years of relevant experience in Energy Management, Facilities Management, Commissioning or Construction Project Management.
  • Strong understanding of building energy systems and energy efficiency technologies.
  • Experience with the design and construction of energy efficiency retrofit projects in existing buildings, especially healthcare facilities varying in age, size, and use.
  • Familiarity and working knowledge with various types of HVAC systems, including boilers, chillers, air handling units, rooftop units, building automation systems; air, steam and chilled water distribution systems; and any other type of heating and cooling applications.
  • Familiarity with technical project management operations, including project planning, scope development, design and construction management, and project close-out.
  • Knowledge and experience with ASHRAE Energy standards, and familiarity with NYC energy, mechanical and electrical codes.
  • Knowledge of energy costs and billing, energy savings calculation methodologies, and emissions calculations methodologies.
  • Familiarity with Design - Build Project Delivery method
  • Basic experience with Microsoft software products to include: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other Windows products when required.
  • Possession of one or more of the following certificates
    • Certified Energy Manager (CEM); Certified Energy Auditor (CEA); Certified Building Commissioning Professional (CBCP) or Existing Building Commissioning Professional (EBCP); or Building Operator Certification - Level 1 credentials or NYS Professional Engineering License
