What you’ll do
  • Provide technical support to IR Engagement to build and sustain Indigenous support for projects and operations through early and honest communication, mitigating potential impacts, and with mutually beneficial partnerships, in alignment with the Company’s IR Policy and Strategy.
  • Contribute to the execution of strategies and programs while enhancing corporate reputation and our ability to execute Projects.
  • Support compliance with best practices related to engagement and TK reporting.
  • Prepare IR-related contributions for Project regulatory submissions that meet or exceed requirements related to engagement, Traditional Knowledge (TK), and the rights of Indigenous Peoples in support of regulatory approvals and compliance.
  • Provide guidance, technical review and support in the management of Consultants for IR specific deliverables (including mitigation measures and responses, incorporation of TK, feedback, and issues or concerns, and the assessment of project effects on Indigenous rights and interests).
  • Support internal stakeholders’, such as IR Engagement and Environment, collaboration with Indigenous groups to gather Traditional Knowledge, develop mitigation measures and address concerns, resolve complex issues, and/or implement participation programs, as required, in support of Project development.
  • Identify, monitor, analyze and escalate emerging issues, risks and opportunities.
  • Liaise with other project team members, such as Regulatory, Regulatory Legal, Environment, Socio-Economics, Community Relations, Land, Communications, and external contractors to support alignment on approaches, consistency and accuracy of messages and timely completion of deliverables, as required.
  • Ensure the evidentiary record of engagement with Indigenous groups, representatives and members is maintained and accurate to support regulatory filings and ongoing relationship building.
  • Maintain an understanding of legislative, regulatory and legal case developments as they relate to emerging issues and trends that could have a material impact to Projects and communicate effectively with leadership.
  • Identify, propose and implement strategic initiatives and continuous improvement opportunities for IR regulatory strategies.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Relevant post-secondary education is required, a university bachelor’s degree or higher is preferred
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in Indigenous Relations, Environment, Archaeology, Anthropology, Law, Regulatory, Government Relations or relevant field
  • Knowledge of and experience with the federal and provincial regulatory processes, requirements and consultation guidelines, particularly as they are related to the energy industry in Canada.
  • Experience with federal, provincial, and territorial environmental assessment processes, including the integration of, and confidentiality surrounding, Traditional Knowledge from Indigenous groups.
  • Superior communication skills, both in writing and verbally, with the ability to effectively present to a variety of audiences.
