About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Legal Advisor to support the legal function within an upstream oil and gas company. This role reports to the Head of Legal and will focus on reviewing and negotiating key petroleum contracts and agreements, including Production Sharing Contracts (PSCs), Joint Operating Agreements (JOAs), and other upstream project agreements.
You will provide legal risk assessments, support dispute resolution, and advise on regulatory and corporate matters relevant to the upstream sector. Managing external counsel and liaising with internal stakeholders and industry partners will also be key responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and negotiate upstream oil and gas agreements to protect company interests
- Advise on legal risks related to business decisions and contracts
- Support dispute, litigation, and arbitration processes
- Monitor and advise on applicable laws, regulations, and industry developments
- Prepare and deliver presentations to partners and stakeholders as needed
- Manage relationships with external legal counsel and internal teams
Requirements:
- Minimum 10 years post-admission to Malaysian Bar
- At least 8 years' experience in oil and gas legal advisory, particularly upstream contracts
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and leadership skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- Fluent in written and spoken English
- Familiarity with Malaysian upstream oil and gas sector, including PSCs and JOAs
