Position Title: Lead Discipline Engineer – Onshore Projects
Department: Engineering
Reports To: Engineering Manager, Project Manager
Role Overview
The Lead Discipline Engineer for Onshore Projects will oversee all engineering activities within the designated discipline, ensuring that project deliverables are met in accordance with client specifications, industry standards, and project requirements. This role requires strong leadership, coordination across multiple disciplines, and a commitment to executing projects safely, on time, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership & Management:
- Lead and manage engineering activities for onshore projects, ensuring deliverables meet safety, quality, budget, and timeline requirements.
- Guide discipline engineers and provide technical leadership to ensure the engineering work aligns with the project scope and specifications.
- Ensure effective coordination and interface management with stakeholders, including clients, partners, third parties, and regulatory bodies.
Safety & Quality Assurance:
- Foster a culture of safety within the engineering team, ensuring all activities are carried out in compliance with safety regulations and best practices.
- Align engineering objectives with project and business unit HSE (Health, Safety, and Environmental) goals, promoting adherence to safety standards.
- Monitor and ensure that all engineering activities are in compliance with relevant codes, performance standards, and quality management systems.
Team Development & Mentoring:
- Contribute to the development of a strong engineering team by participating in recruitment and helping to achieve business growth objectives.
- Mentor and support team members, guiding them in technical areas and helping them grow in their professional roles.
Project Planning & Execution:
- Collaborate with the project management and planning teams to create comprehensive project plans that ensure on-time and on-budget delivery.
- Analyze technical drawings and specifications to prepare and update project budgets and cost projections.
- Assign engineering responsibilities and coordinate cross-disciplinary activities to meet project deadlines and objectives.
Engineering Documentation & Review:
- Oversee the creation and review of high-quality technical documentation, ensuring all outputs are aligned with project requirements and standards.
- Lead engineering meetings, ensuring effective communication, issue resolution, and progress tracking.
Fieldwork & Compliance Oversight:
- Supervise on-site fieldwork activities, ensuring engineering tasks and subcontractor operations are performed to the required specifications and quality standards.
- Regularly review and ensure compliance with applicable engineering codes, policies, and project standards.
Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) & Coordination:
- Manage the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) to organize and effectively manage the total scope of the project.
- Ensure that necessary documentation, including invoices and completion certificates, are submitted and approved by clients or owners as required.
Other Responsibilities:
- Perform additional duties and support functions as needed, contributing to the overall success of the project and the engineering team.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Professional Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Additional certifications or professional qualifications in project management or relevant engineering disciplines are advantageous.
Experience:
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in project engineering, with a focus on onshore or construction projects.
- Previous experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and managing complex projects is highly preferred.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong leadership abilities with a focus on mentoring and team development.
- In-depth knowledge of project management, including cost estimation, scheduling, and scope management.
- Expertise in engineering design and standards, particularly within the construction and onshore project sectors.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills, with the ability to work across teams and with external stakeholders.
