YOUR CHALLENGES
The Solar Support Engineer will provide technical support on solar projects owned and operated by Boralex in North America. You will provide safe and efficient technical support on solar equipment in the field from inverters to modules, assist in developing strong techniques, maintenance strategies, and processes to maximize solar plant performance and long-term performance sustainability. You will also serve as a Subject Matter Expert for the equipment specific to solar projects working closely with the Site Manager, Director of Energy and Shared Technical Support team to guide lifecycle planning.

In your role, you will have the following responsibilities:
- Author and assist in the direction and coordination of maintenance, support, documentation, and testing activities to ensure alignment with OEM manuals, Boralex and industry best practices.
- Using OEM Manuals and best industry practice, develop field level processes describing Standardized Maintenance and troubleshooting procedure and support Boralex CMMS integration (IBM-Maximo).
- Develop technical scope, support technical requests for information, and alignment calls or visits with vendors to support major CAPEX projects or minor repairs as needed.
- Support and contribute to preventive and corrective maintenance strategy include incorporating lessons learned from across the portfolio.
- Instruct, train, and assist site personnel in technical subjects and safe work practices. Ensure compliance with industry safe work practices by site technicians and contractors performing Solar work activities.
- Assist the procurement team to identify alternate material suppliers for various equipment aligned with industry best practices and technical requirements.
- Assist with analytical reviews on solar facilities to drive more accurate performance modeling and corrective actions for underperforming plants.
- Assist in the creation of reliable methods to analyze solar operational data to enable regular analysis updates to be performed.
- Validate processes developed by Health, Safety & Environment, Centralized technical support, Operational Technology, and other Enterprise-Wide Subject Matter Experts.
- Work with other Subject Matter Experts to integrate Enterprise-Wide processes into the solar business.
- Assist and give technical direction during planned and unplanned outages to restore plant to normal operations in a safe and timely manner.
- Assist in the transition from construction to operations commissioning and testing.
YOUR SKILLS
- B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years' experience in the utility-scale PV solar industry.
- Knowledge of in-depth testing and troubleshooting of low and medium voltage equipment including Inverters, DC collection equipment, trackers, measurement equipment, instrumentation and control systems.
- Extensive knowledge in electrical troubleshooting of electronic circuits and controls.
- Familiar with SCADA systems. Familiar with single line and 3-line diagrams
- Excellent people skills and have strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate effectively across multiple company departments, with 2nd and 3rd party contractors, and customers, exercising appropriate tact and diplomacy to accomplish objectives.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to drive a vehicle.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to walk distances up to 5 miles in a day.
- Ability to ascend or descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, and the like, maintaining 3 points of contact.
- Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound.
- Ability to maintain body equilibrium while walking, standing, crouching, transitioning levels on level, narrow or slippery surfaces.
- Required to have visual acuity which includes depth perception, field of vision and the ability to distinguish between colors.
- Ability to work in outside environments which may include but are not limited to, extreme heat (temperatures above 100°F) or extreme cold (temperatures below 32°F) for periods of more than one hour.
- Exerting up to 60 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 40 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Additional Requirements:
- Must hold valid driver's license.
- Drive up to 6 hours per day to reach and return for project locations.
- Work in a fast-changing environment which may require quick decisions with limited processes and procedures.
