Description

Broadwind Heavy Fabrications / Clean Fuel division is searching for a Gas Processing Engineer to join our Abilene, TX team. The Gas Processing Engineer is a member of a collaborative Product Development Team dedicated to developing innovative equipment solutions supporting the energy transition. In this role, the Process Engineer will apply a strong oil and gas process and component aptitude to deliver innovative, reliable, safe solutions. This role involves hands-on involvement from initial conceptual design and costing through product shipment and ongoing field support.

Work assignments will include both smaller individual projects, as well as being a team member of larger projects, under the guidance of the Director of Engineering. The Processing Engineer should be able to evaluate, select, specify, and engineer certain compressed gas, control systems, and valving components. A variety of tasks including calculations, design, documentation, and field work will be essential in fulfilling this role. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in gas processing, with expertise in industry standards, component sizing, P&ID development, and hazard analysis.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Gas Processing Engineer will perform various tasks related to the design and development of automated gas processing equipment.
  • Support product definition and specification preparations including feasibility and basic risk assessment, value analysis, and basic cost estimating.
  • Develop and design gas processing systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Create and maintain Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) for gas processing projects.
  • Perform design calculations using process simulation and proprietary manufacturer software for component selection.
  • Specify appropriate Control valves, Pressure Safety valves, Relief valves and Flowmeters for the application.
  • Apply familiarity/knowledge of relevant regulations and codes applicable to automated gas processing equipment.
  • Instrumentation studies to select pressure, flow, current, temperature, and other analytical elements/transmitters.
  • Manage assigned projects from conception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Collaborate closely with controls engineers to develop control logic and PLC programs to integrate sensors, transducers, actuators, and SCADA that deliver the projects specified input and output requirements.
  • Interpret technical specifications and assist in clearly communicating requirements to manufacturing floor through drawings or work instructions.
  • Contribute to the creation of product manufacturing process definition and documentation as needed.
  • Participate in Hazard and Operability Analysis and Process Hazard Analysis evaluations, PFMEA, and various other risk assessments to assure product safety.
  • Work with Manufacturing and Service personnel to provide hands-on troubleshooting, optimization.
  • Work closely with customers to understand their needs and constraints to provide creative solutions to meet their needs.
  • Support multiple projects simultaneously while managing to timelines.

Requirements

Academic/Experience/Credentials/Certifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or related field.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience providing technical process design engineering support in a gas operating environment is required.
  • Hands-on field experience troubleshooting equipment issues and training operators.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and proof of insurance.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards/codes such as ASME, API, NFPA, IEEE, etc.

Specialized Skills/Knowledge/Ability:
  • Skilled at creating and interpreting P&ID and component requirements.
  • Experience working with Process Simulation and Component Sizing Software.
  • Basic navigation and design skills running Solid Works 3D CAD software.
  • Proficiency in MS word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Robust analytical skills with exceptional reasoning abilities; ability to make sound, objective decisions derived from a variety of information.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects successfully while maintaining deadlines.
