General Summary:

The Service Technician II is responsible for servicing, maintaining, troubleshooting, testing, and repairing diesel-powered generation equipment and related systems. The technician must be able to perform most tasks independently with minimal guidance. This role is primarily based in the shop, though some field work may be assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform preventative maintenance on power generation equipment according to Multiquip's established guidelines and service/maintenance schedules.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose common issues with power generation equipment, identifying necessary parts and ordering them for repairs
  • Manage and track inventory during inspection and repair processes.
  • Performs standard repairs on power generation equipment and related supporting accessories, replacing supporting accessories when needed. Complete understanding of schematics and wiring diagrams is required.
  • Disassemble, reassemble, and install components and parts- including electrical and electronic components such as reconnection board, terminal blocks, controls, buss panels, engine DC, generator AC, junction terminal boxes, and main control switch panels.
  • Perform functional and continuity tests of electrical assemblies, components, wire harness, and plugs, using ohmmeter, test lights, and other electrical testing instruments.
  • Inspect and repair supporting systems, including fuel, cooling, and electrical systems.
  • Conduct DOT inspections and repairs on Multiquip-manufactured trailers. DOT certification testing is available to the employee for this job function.
  • Setup and test generators utilizing portable load bank systems, calculating the requirements needed for the specific generator being tested as well as equipment and cable inspections for safe operations.
  • Collaborate with other generator service technicians to ensure work is performed safely and meets customer satisfaction.
  • Assist senior technicians when required.
  • Perform wiring tasks, including cutting, routing, twisting, and attaching wires to terminal points according to layout, using soldering gun and hand tools. Connect wiring to accessories, such as relays, circuit breakers, plugs, switches, solenoids, circuit breakers, buss panels, and reconnection boards.
  • Request equipment and or supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of the items required to complete necessary jobs.
  • Prepare and complete service reports in a precise and timely manner.
  • Participate in meetings and trainings as assigned for the purpose of conveying or gathering information required to perform job functions.
  • Perform all work according to Multiquip's quality standards, safety procedures, and maintaining a clean, safe work environment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the employees' manager/supervisor.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
  • High school diploma or (GED) equivalent;
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with current (2016 and newer) power generation equipment.
  • Experience in diesel engine generator and electrical troubleshooting is required.

Qualifications:
  • Must be a strong team player with a positive attitude and the ability to collaborate effectively with others.
  • Mechanically inclined and able to complete assigned tasks with minimal or no supervision.
  • Must have great overall understanding of complex and/or logical functions.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to job sites for repairs as needed.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting equipment and safety guidelines, operating and maintenance instructions, electrical and hydraulic schematics, troubleshooting flow charts, and equipment service manuals.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey technical information clearly.
  • Proficient in using standard computer programs such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, web-based service tools, and reporting tools.
  • Must have and be able to operate all necessary standard tools required to complete repairs.

Skills:
  • Intermediate Electrical Skills: Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and diagrams; perform complex wiring and electrical connection repairs.
  • Intermediate Maintenance Skills: To conduct detailed inspections and preventative maintenance on all equipment sizes; replace belts, hoses, sensors, and seals; diagnose and bleed fuel systems, and perform valve adjustments.
  • Advanced Troubleshooting: Needed to diagnose and repair more complex mechanical and electrical issues. Uses diagnostic tools and software to identify system and component failures.
  • Power Generation Knowledge: Perform laptop-based generator controller software updates and adjustments; diagnose voltage selector issues and AVRs; understand power generation terminology.
  • Engine Knowledge: Proficiency in diagnosing and troubleshooting engine issues, isolating problems to specific systems or components, using mechanical and diagnostic tools; ability to perform engine overhauls and repair diesel engine systems, including fuel injection and after-treatment systems.
  • Schematics and Wiring Diagrams: Complete understanding of schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to interact with customers, explaining technical issues in simple terms.
  • Time Efficiency: Able to complete level II jobs with 85% productivity

Licenses, Certifications and Registrations:
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Completion or active participation in Level II technical online courses (e.g., Isuzu, John Deere, and Multiquip training) is preferred.

  • Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required for this role include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
