Description

Step into a dynamic role in our Electric Engineering Division within the Electric Utility Department. In this technical engineering position, you'll work directly with the Electric Engineering Technician Supervisor, playing a vital role in driving forward innovative projects and advancing our commitment to renewable energy.
Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Net Metering Expertise: Manage net metering requests for customer-owned photovoltaic (solar) systems across single-phase residential, single-phase commercial, and three-phase commercial setups.
2. Stakeholder Relations: Build and sustain positive relationships with customers, contractors, and equipment providers to ensure seamless collaboration throughout the project lifecycle.
3. Document Analysis: Review and analyze a variety of system application documents, such as electrical diagrams, construction drawings, system specifications, and contracts, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
4. Technical Aptitude: Conduct electrical calculations and apply OEU design standards to determine system sizing approval and operational requirements.
5. Application Management: Log, review, and respond to incoming documents, promptly providing acceptance or specifying necessary corrections. Keep applicants updated throughout the process.
6. Communication Oversight: Track and archive all communications with customers, contractors, and providers for each unique net metering application.
7. Real-Time Documentation: Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation on all applications through a shared access system, promoting transparency and inter-divisional collaboration.
8. Site Inspections: Conduct site inspections for all net metering applications to ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
9. Project Documentation: Prepare detailed documentation, including scope-of-work, design criteria, supporting data, and contract requirements for Tier-3 net metering applications. Oversee customer invoicing, payments, consultant invoice reviews, and interconnection study report deliverables.
10. Technical Tools Utilization: Use GIS, AutoCAD, and work order systems to generate solar work orders and net meter installation requests.
11. Compliance Inspections: Perform post-operation compliance inspections and conduct random audits of solar systems to ensure revenue protection and operational safety.
12. Team Collaboration: Work closely with the OEU Engineering Technician team, assisting with various tasks such as conduit inspections and GIS field accuracy checks as needed.
13. Emergency Response: Availability during after-hour emergencies, demonstrating a strong commitment to our operational response with senior level preparation to ensure a swift and effective response to critical situations.

Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or GED required, with a strong technical foundation acquired through coursework. Ideal candidates will have completed classes or gained experience in engineering, physics, mathematics, or fundamental electricity.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of hands-on experience in the electric or utility field is required.
  • Experience as an electric technician, electrician, or similar positions is preferred.
REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATES
  • Must possess a Florida Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT
  • The employee must, within one year of date of hire or promotion, reside and remain within 45 minutes of the assigned work facility.

Direct deposit automatically deposits your net pay each pay period to your checking or savings account at your own financial institution. Direct deposit is a condition of employment for a person hired by the City.

All contributions to the 401a Defined contribution plan are pre-tax and earnings grow tax-deferred. The City contributes 8% and employees contribute 3%. City contributions are 100% vested after one year of employment. You will be enrolled automatically and should take time to review your investment options at your earliest convenience.

Training Programs

The City is committed to provide training programs for all departments and all positions. Risk Management conducts classes in Defensive Driving, Safety, and Insurance. With rare exceptions, classes are offered during working hours, and are open to all eligible employees.
