Job Description

We are looking for a person to join the technical services team at Haile, which provides technical work for both the Underground and Open Pit operations.

We believe in fostering the growth and development of our employees. While this role will start in the Planning Team, there are numerous opportunities for career placements within our organization. Future roles could include Underground and Open Pit positions, such as medium-range planning, short-range scheduling, drill and blast, continuous improvement, geotechnical engineering, ventilation engineering, and more. We are committed to providing our employees the training and support they need to excel in their careers.

  • Operational responsibilities may include
    • Create and oversee the execution of their Drill and Blast designs.
    • Prepare and deliver a 0 to 3-month forecast in line with the Life-of-Mine and enable the business to meet its objectives in terms of production and cost.
    • Assist in managing scheduling systems required to execute the mine plan effectively.
    • Identifies possible upcoming schedule risks and initiates control measures to mitigate the effects on the mine plan.
    • Actively look for opportunities to accelerate work/implement cost savings to provide schedule opportunities in areas of control.
    • Assist with month-end reports, including spatial and mine plan attainment, and communicate with all relevant stakeholders.
    • Ensure all works under the area of control are completed to a standard that is fit for purpose and meets the end users' requirements.
    • Other tasks as assigned by the Senior or Superintendent

  • Health, Safety, and Environment
    • Comply with OceanaGold Health and Safety Policy and Environment Policy.
    • Promoting safety awareness and environmental responsibility amongst company and contract personnel.
    • Report all personal injuries and incidents and assist with investigations.
    • Actively supporting and participating in safety and environmental initiatives.
    • Accepting accountability to ensure personal safety and the safety of others whilst protecting the environment.
    • Monitor the reporting of workplace incidents and hazards to ensure effective risk mitigation is maintained.
    • Undertake workplace inspections and audits to ensure site standards are being adhered to.
    • Support incident investigations that occur within area of control.

Qualifications
  • Education
    • 4-year degree in Mining Engineering
  • Experience
    • 3-5 years relevant experience in hard rock mining; new grads welcome to apply
    • Experience in mine planning using scheduling software
    • Previous experience in Drill & Blast highly regarded.
    • Previous experience in open pit or underground development planning is highly regarded.

Physical Requirements:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs, talk, hear, and see.
  • Must be able to climb 25' vertical ladder sections unaided.
  • Occasionally lifting moderately heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) may be required during the workday.
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine environment, including a hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.
