Who We Are

Golden Queen Mining Co., LLC (the "Company") operates a gold and silver, open pit, heap leach operation on its Soledad Mountain property, located just outside the town of Mojave in Kern County in southern California. The Project uses conventional open pit mining methods and the cyanide heap leach and Merrill-Crowe processes to recover gold and silver from crushed, agglomerated ore.

Who You Are

You hold a bachelor's degree in mining engineering, geological engineering, or a related field. You are skilled in mine planning software such as MineSight or AutoCAD, with familiarity in Wenco and LeapFrog being an added advantage. You have a minimum of three years of experience in open-pit mining. You possess a solid understanding of budgeting, cash flow modeling, and the essential elements of balance sheets and income statements. You communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and excel at presenting information clearly to key stakeholders.

This is a safety sensitive position. As the Chief Mine Engineer you report to the Mine Manager.

What You Do
  • Develop long-term and review mid and short-term plan products from the responsible engineer, for a complex series of ore bodies using Mine Sight software.
  • Ensure that the series of short-term plans links seamlessly to the long-term plans.
  • Design access ramps that make the best use of the difficult topography and waste rock disposal areas. Ore stockpiles may be required if there is a need to blend ores.
  • Optimize the movement of ore and waste according to the plan, account for haulage and maintenance utilization projections.
  • Evaluate Long Range goals and assist with LOM extension and value creation.
  • Conduct studies and prepare reports on alternative mine designs and mining scenarios.
  • Have a good knowledge of 4D optimizations, how they work, how optimization parameters are put together and how optimization is used in mine design and utilize ore reserve calculations.
  • Work closely with the drill/blast engineer to review blast masters to ensure excellent fragmentation; review team performance of designed wall compliance.
  • Review mine operating costs and always be on the look-out for ways of reducing costs.
  • Evaluate alternative mining methods and equipment needs to ensure that the mining method is suitable and may have to be varied at times to ensure ore- from-waste separation is and remains effective with minimum dilution.
  • Be aware of the need to separate quality waste rock and store quality waste rock for the proposed aggregate operation and allow for this in the mine design.
  • Communicate and work closely with mine operations management to ensure departmental efficiency.
  • Be familiar with and comply with the Company's safety and health policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You Bring
  • A Bachelor's degree in mining engineering, geological engineering, or a related field is required.
  • Proficiency in MineSight mine planning software, AutoCAD, or similar mining software; familiarity with Wenco and LeapFrog is a plus.
  • Experience in open-pit optimization.
  • At least 3 years of experience in open-pit planning, with open-pit operational experience considered an advantage.
  • Understanding of budgeting, cash flow modeling, and key components of balance sheets and income statements is beneficial.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present information clearly and effectively.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.

Salary Description

$123,000 to $162,725 annually
