Overview
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Employee will perform a variety of skilled and technical duties and also direct, train and assist others in the performance of their duties in connection with investigating and correcting all types of customer and Company gas related problems and complaints As such, courteous, clear and professional communications are critical to this role.
Employees communicate on a regular basis with emergency response agencies (i.e. fire department, police, 911), customers, the general public, dispatchers, supervision, contractors, and other departments, to ensure safe, timely completion of the work.
Responsibilities
GENERAL DUTIES
The normal duties may include but are not limited to:
1. Employee will be knowledgeable of and follow all safety rules, procedures and practices.
2. Employee acting in conjunction with supervision or individually as directed by supervision will assist and/or direct the training of other employees in the correct operating procedures necessary to fully satisfy the classification duties of Trouble Technician Helper and all lower classifications within the subject line of progression or other duties with which the employee is familiar.
3. Employee will, when directed by supervision, report to assigned locations during emergencies and for the purpose of receiving training and will actively participate in the training activities.
4. Employee will carry out assignments in training for and/or performing fire fighting and first aid.
5. Employee will exhibit an adequate competency level pertaining to activities delineated in the Duties and Qualifications sections of this job classification. Demonstrate such competency via performance of job duties and training and testing programs administered at intervals prescribed by Louisville Gas and Electric to assure correct classification of employees.
6. Employee will, during the normal performance of his duties, watch for and promptly report to supervision any damaged or defective equipment or other abnormal operating conditions which may cause damage, injury or other unsafe condition.
7. Employee will perform duties of lower or higher classifications that are incidental to the job and are within his/her capabilities including those needed for the purpose of training in the requirements of the higher classifications.
8. Employee will keep all equipment, tools, materials and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
9. Employee will report as directed to any facility for any shift where needed.
10. Employee will perform work in a responsible and cooperative manner to facilitate a positive working environment.
11. Employee will compile information and generate reports, forms and documents as required.
12. Employee will represent the Company to the community with attention to the highest standard of conduct, appearance and attitude.
13. Employee will report, to proper supervision, job progress and all problems, or other factors which affect the job, except recommendations for disciplinary action.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
Duties which may include, but are not limited to:
1. Employee will assist with non-emergency work orders (turn on/off at street/meter, low pressure investigations, meter exchanges, regulator replacements).
2. Employee will assist in the investigation emergency work orders and irregularities related to customer or Company gas systems (leak investigations, broken main/service responses, carbon monoxide investigations, high pressure investigations), with primary emphasis on the protection of life and property.
3. Employee will take action to correct irregularities or advise the customer and the appropriate operating section, division or department of any remedial action that is required.
4. Employee will respond to Emergency Agency (fire, police, EMS) requests for assistance in situations where gas may be involved.
5. Employee will perform a variety of duties incidental to the operation of the gas system such as placing or replacing barricades, pumping drips, checking odorant levels and other similar duties.
6. Employee will check gas pressure at regulator stations and customer services.
7. Employee must learn the codes, standards and company policies associated with the gas distribution system and customer piping installations.
8. Employee must learn proper documentation of non-emergency work orders electronically (including, but not limited to Ventyx Service Suite) and paper documentation (including, but not limited to: job cards, red tags, hang cards).
9. Employee will perform all duties in compliance with applicable codes, rules, regulations and procedures related to the Gas Operations Section.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR ENTRY INTO:
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS
1. Employee must meet all general qualifications of employment.
2. Employee must meet all qualifications as required by Federal, State and Municipal regulations as applies to this position.
3. Employee must be able to speak, understand, read and write English, and be able to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
4. Employee must have education or knowledge equivalent to that normally represented by satisfactory completion of the requirements of a high school diploma, or equivalent.
5. Employee must be able to learn to use the tools and equipment required in the work.
6. Employee must learn the Company Safety Rules and willingly see that they are followed and enforced.
7. Employee must have a valid state driver's license.
8. Employee must be willing to work inside and outside under varying weather conditions.
9. Employee must be willing to report as directed to any facility for any shift where needed.
10. Employee must be in good health and be able to perform the physical requirements of the job, which include heavy manual labor.
11. Employee must be willing and able to communicate through both verbal and written reports.
12. Employee must be able to learn to make and read simple drawings and sketches.
13. Employee must be willing to carry through work assignments, and conduct himself/herself in a manner that encourages cooperation and satisfactory work from others assigned to work with him/her.
14. Employee must be rated qualified for entry into this classification under the Louisville Gas and Electric Company's Employee Performance Review Program and have satisfactorily completed all applicable training and testing programs.
15. Employee must successfully complete such entry level testing programs as are promulgated by Louisville Gas and Electric to measure job responsive aptitude, ability to retain knowledge, and problem solving skills.
16. Employee must possess the willingness and ability to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to advance to higher classifications.
SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS
1. Employee must learn the proper use of combustible gas indicators, and other testing devices and instruments.
2. Employee must become proficient in their knowledge of the gas service area including street locations and various pressure systems.
3. Employee must become proficient assisting in locating and classifying gas leaks.
4. Employee must be able to meet the public in a pleasant, courteous and tactful manner and must possess the ability to work cooperatively with other departments, utilities and contractors with which his/her work must be coordinated.
5. Employee must become proficient in their ability to accurately read and understand gas construction maps and drawings and to make sketches, changes and additions to prints as directed, including recognizing and reporting mistakes on prints (paper or electronic maps).
6. Employee must become proficient in their knowledge of computer and electronic devices associated with the job (including, but not limited to mobile work order system, mapping system, text messaging, company radio).
7. Employee must be able to work in a high stress environment and have the ability to remain calm and make accurate decisions.
