Brief Job Purpose
To lead the design, development, and implementation of process engineering systems and solutions for Deepwater oil and gas projects, ensuring technical excellence, operational efficiency, compliance with regulatory standards, and alignment with project objectives. The role encompasses managing engineering deliverables, optimizing production processes, and fostering collaboration across multidisciplinary teams to achieve safe, cost-effective, and environmentally sustainable operations.
Responsibilities & Key Objectives
- Lead process engineering activities for large-scale upstream deepwater oil and gas projects.
- Oversee the design and optimization of offshore facilities, including production platforms, subsea systems, and FPSOs (Floating Production Storage and Offloading units).
- Coordinate interdisciplinary efforts between process, mechanical, electrical, and subsea engineering teams.
- Act as the primary technical authority for process-related decisions throughout the project lifecycle, from conceptual design to commissioning and startup.
- Develop process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
- Define operating strategies for high-pressure and high-temperature (HPHT) systems.
- Evaluate and design separation systems, chemical injection, and dehydration processes.
- Perform flow assurance studies, ensuring the effective handling of multiphase fluids.
- Conduct process simulations using industry-standard software (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, UniSim).
- Ensure compliance with international codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., API, ISO, ASME).
- Drive safety and risk assessment activities such as HAZOP, SIL, and HAZID reviews.
- Ensure that process designs meet environmental compliance and emissions reduction goals.
- Interface with clients, regulators, and contractors to align project objectives.
- Manage budgets, schedules, and resources for process engineering deliverables.
- Provide technical input during procurement of process equipment and materials.
- Offer technical expertise during installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
- Support debottlenecking and brownfield modifications for existing offshore facilities.
Education
Min. bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or a related discipline.
Min. 25 year experiences in oil & gas project with specific 15 years experience in deep water project.
Experience Specific Competencies Required
Proven experience in deepwater projects, particularly in offshore engineering environments. Hands-on involvement in the design, commissioning, or operation of deepwater production systems.
- Expertise in process simulation tools (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, OLGA for flow assurance).
- Strong understanding of multiphase flow, reservoir fluids, and gas/liquid separation technologies.
- Knowledge of deepwater-specific challenges such as hydrate formation, wax deposition, and slugging.
- Familiarity with relevant standards and codes (e.g., API RP 14C, NORSOK, IEC standards).
- Professional engineering licensure (PE, CEng) is an advantage.
- Leadership and team management experience in a multicultural, multidisciplinary environment.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication and presentation abilities for engaging stakeholders and teams.
- Willingness to travel and work offshore as needed.
- Knowledge of sustainability and emissions reduction practices in oil and gas.
