General Summary:

The Service Technician III position involves service, maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, and repair of diesel-powered generation equipment and related systems. The technician will perform most tasks with minimal supervision, bringing extensive experience and expertise in diesel-driven generators. This role includes high level responsibilities such as guiding and leading repair projects, as well as making critical decisions on generator repairs. Primary duties will be based in the shop, but fieldwork is required as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform preventative maintenance on power generation equipment according to Multiquip's established guidelines and service/maintenance schedules. Lead complex repair projects and oversee the work of mid-level technicians.
• Assist Service Manager in shop work quality and productivity.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose standard problems with power generation equipment. Identify and order appropriate/required items to complete repairs and maintenance.
• Track and manage specific inventory during inspection and repair processes.
• Conducts standard repairs on power generation equipment and related accessories, replacing accessories as necessary. Complete understanding of schematics and wiring diagrams is required.
• Disassemble, assemble, install, and remove components and parts including electrical and electronic components such as reconnection board, terminal blocks, controls, buss panels, engine DC, generator AC, junction terminal boxes, and main control switch panels.
• Conduct functional and continuity tests of electrical assemblies, components, wire harness, and plugs, using tools like ohmmeter, test lights, and other electrical testing instruments.
• Inspect and repair supporting systems, including fuel, cooling, and electrical systems.
• Conduct DOT inspections and repairs on Multiquip-manufactured trailers. DOT certification testing is available to the employee for this job function.
• Setup and test generators utilizing portable load bank systems, calculating the requirements needed for the specific generator being tested as well as equipment and cable inspections for safe operations.
• Collaborate with other technicians to ensure safe, high-quality completion of all scheduled work.
• Perform wiring tasks, including cutting, routing, twisting, and attaching wires to terminal points according to layout, using soldering gun and hand tools. Connect wiring to accessories, such as relays, circuit breakers, plugs, switches, solenoids, circuit breakers, buss panels, and reconnection boards.
• Request equipment and or supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of the items required to complete necessary jobs.
• Prepares and completes service reports in a precise and timely manner as required.
• Participates in meetings and trainings as assigned for the purpose of conveying or gathering information required to perform job functions.
• Performs all work in accordance with Multiquip's established quality standards along with all safety procedures and maintains a clean and safe working environment.
• Performs other duties as assigned by manager/supervisor.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

• High school diploma or (GED) equivalent;
• At least 5 years of hands-on experience with current power generation equipment (2016 and newer).
• Experience in diesel engine generator and electrical troubleshooting is required.

• Strong background in both mechanical and electrical systems related to diesel generators.
• Must have great overall understanding of complex and/or logical functions.
• Willingness and ability to travel to job sites for repairs as needed.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Proficient in reading and interpreting equipment and safety guidelines, operating and maintenance instructions, electrical and hydraulic schematics, troubleshooting flow charts, and equipment service manuals.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey technical information clearly.
• Proficient in using standard computer programs such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, web-based service tools, and reporting tools.
• Must have and be able to operate all necessary standard tools required to complete repairs.

Skill Areas Needed:

• Advanced Electrical Skills: Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and diagrams, as well as perform more complex wiring and electrical connection repairs. Proficient in troubleshooting electrical faults in starting and charging systems and power distribution.
• Advanced Maintenance Skills: Ability to perform details inspections and preventative maintenance across various equipment sizes, including replacing belts, hoses, sensors, and seals. Proficient in diagnosing and bleeding fuel systems, valve adjustments, and predictive maintenance techniques and monitoring.
• Advanced Troubleshooting Skills: Ability to diagnose and repair complex mechanical and electrical issues. Proficient in using diagnostic tools and software to identify system and component failures and communicate findings clearly.
• Power Generation Expertise: To perform laptop-based generator controller software updates, diagnose voltage selector issues, and troubleshoot AVRs. In-depth knowledge of generator terms and applications including parallel.
• Generators Controls Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of generator control panels and programmable logic controllers. Able to configure and calibrate control systems for optimal performance.
• Engine Skills: Advanced skills in diagnostics and troubleshooting engine problems, isolating issues to system and components, using mechanical and diagnostic tooling. Able to complete more complete repairs, including engine overhauls. Expertise in diesel engine systems, including fuel injection systems, electrical and after-treatment. Proficient in engine diagnosis of electrical, fuel and mechanical systems.
• Communication Skills: Strong customer-facing communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical issues in simple terms, and make recommendations for system upgrades and replacements.
• Documentation and Reporting: Ability to generate technical reports
• Time Efficiency: Ability to achieve 100% productivity in completing Level III tasks.

Licenses, Certifications and Registrations:

• Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
• Completion or active participation in Level II technical online courses (e.g., Isuzu, John Deere, and Multiquip training) is preferred.

• Base pay range of $28.00-35.00/hr
