The Senior Petroleum Engineer assigned to the Idd El-Shargi (IS) Field Production Engineering team is responsible for overseeing the oil and gas production systems, water injection, and water disposal wells. This includes monitoring drilling operations, designing completions, managing flowback/testing operations, conducting chemical treatments, ensuring well integrity, and implementing remedial measures to enhance production.
The role demands technical expertise in well production systems, specifically gas lift and Electrical Submersible Pumps (ESP), to maximize well and field output efficiently. The engineer will utilize cutting-edge technologies and advanced production strategies to optimize performance, enhance reservoir recovery, and reduce operational costs.

This includes monitoring drilling operations, designing completions, managing flowback/testing operations, conducting chemical treatments, ensuring well integrity, and implementing remedial measures to enhance production.

The engineer will utilize cutting-edge technologies and advanced production strategies to optimize performance, enhance reservoir recovery, and reduce operational costs.
Principal Accountabilities
- Lead production optimization initiatives for existing and future development wells.
- Responsible for well and field performance evaluation using integrated production system modelling tools such as material balance, Nodal Analysis, and surface network software (e.g., PROSPER, GAP, MBAL).
- Monitor daily well and reservoir performance, identifying underperforming wells and executing remedial actions.
- Diagnose and resolve issues related to gas lift and ESP operations to ensure well productivity and uptime.
- Prepare and implement field operational procedures for well intervention and remediation.
- Work closely with field teams to plan, maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize gas lift operations.
- Evaluate, deploy, and assess new gas lift technologies to improve well efficiency.
- Ensure adequate well startup and shutdown procedures for gas and oil wells.
- Conduct well test validation and support the calibration of well test flow meters.
- Support well allocation, downtime tracking, and production KPI reporting.
- Perform regular field visits to oversee gas lift and ESP commissioning, optimization, and well servicing.
- Engage in technical studies, project evaluations, and prepare reports and presentations.
- Mentor and develop Qatari associates and junior engineers in gas lift and ESP operations.
Experience
Context / Special Features / Challenges
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in Petroleum Engineering within the Oil and Gas industry, specializing in Surveillance, Reservoir, and Production Engineering, and Field Development.
- Strong expertise in production optimization for large brownfield offshore oil and gas fields.
- Skilled in integrated production system modelling using tools like PROSPER, GAP, MBAL for well and field performance evaluation.
- Experience in digital tools such as PI Vision, Avocet, OFM, and IVM/IFM for production monitoring, optimization, and well diagnostics.
- Hands-on experience in troubleshooting gas lift and ESP operations to ensure maximum uptime and efficiency.
- Knowledgeable in cased hole production logs, well performance analysis, fluid dynamics, and production assurance.
- Strong analytical skills for accurate well allocation, downtime tracking, and production KPI reporting.
- Ability to evaluate and deploy new production technologies to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
- Excellent teamwork skills in a multidisciplinary, international, and multicultural environment.
- Familiarity with industry regulations, safety practices, and environmental standards.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills with field teams, peers, and management.
Qualifications
Qualifications / Knowledge / Skills / Experience- Education: Minimum BSc degree in Petroleum Engineering or equivalent.
- Technical Expertise.
- Proficient in Production Data Management Systems (e.g., Avocet, OFM)..
- Skilled in SCADA surveillance tools (e.g., PI Vision).
- Expertise in Petroleum Experts Suite, including:
Well Inflow Performance Modelling Software: PROSPER or similar.
General Allocation and Production Network Software: GAP or similar.
Experience with Digital Oil Field System (DOF).
