EngineeringOur client is currently seeking a Process Safety Specialist to join their team out of their location in Southern, NJ! This individual will be overseeing and managing the process safety efforts of this local refinery, offering indsutry expertise to various processes, as well guidance and oversight of younger engineers. This is will be a part-time, contract position with flexabile hours and potential for remote work!

Key Responsibilities:
- Perform process hazard analyses (PHA) including HAZOP studies, risk assessments, and other safety analyses.
- Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Process Safety Management (PSM) programs and procedures.
- Assist in the identification and mitigation of potential hazards and risks in refinery processes.
- Review and provide recommendations on equipment design, safety systems, and operational practices to ensure alignment with process safety standards.
- Conduct incident investigations, including root cause analysis, for any safety-related events or near misses.
- Prepare detailed technical reports, documentation, and safety assessments as required.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, maintenance, and management, to ensure safety regulations and standards are effectively followed.
- Provide guidance and support on compliance with industry regulations, codes, and standards (e.g., OSHA, EPA, NFPA).
- Participate in and/or lead safety training and awareness programs for refinery staff.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in process safety or related roles within the refining or oil and gas industry preferred.
- Strong understanding of process safety management systems and regulatory compliance (OSHA PSM, EPA Risk Management Plans, etc.).
- Experience in performing HAZOP, LOPA, FMEA, and other process safety-related analyses.
- Proficient in risk assessment tools and techniques.
- Familiarity with refinery operations and safety standards.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a remote team environment.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
- Professional certifications (e.g., Certified Safety Professional, Six Sigma) a plus.
- Experience with process simulation and modeling tools is an advantage.
- Previous experience in a remote or contract role is preferred.
- This is a part-time, contract position with flexible hours, allowing you to manage your time effectively.
- Expected work schedule: 20-25 hours per week, with the possibility to adjust based on project needs.
