JOB DESCRIPTION

Wood is recruiting for a Principal Process Engineer (Dynamic Simulation) to join the team in Calgary. The successful candidate must work well within a large team environment while preparing process information deliverables for customers, Business Development Group, and the Production Optimization Group.

We are looking for dynamic, versatile individuals with a desire to support a wide variety of fast-moving projects in subsea and onshore energy transportation with a continuous focus on delivery and client satisfaction. Supporting global energy transition through decarbonisation including hydrogen transport and CO2 capture and injection is a key part of our future growth plans. We are looking to expand our consultancy team to support the significant growth in these sectors, while at the same time meeting commitments to existing hydrocarbon development infrastructure.

Wood has successfully delivered more than 2,000 flow assurance projects for more than 200 companies worldwide. Our Flow Assurance group has tremendous expertise in flow assurance innovation and consulting from design through operations and software development to address life cycle needs to increase production and improve operability.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensuring Success of the Production Optimization Team
  • Solving Problems from conceptual design to installation and commissioning and operational debottlenecking
  • The successful candidate will take direct engineering responsibility for the executing dynamic process simulation for Oil and Gas upstream and midstream process system and integrate them with transient multiphase thermal hydraulic models like OLGA/Virtuoso
  • Develop and run dynamic simulations using Hysys Dynamics or Unisim
  • Perform dynamic process simulations to match to operating data or heat and material balances
  • Using dynamic simulations, verify the design of valves, control loops around the critical equipment like compressors, distillation units etc., to handle transient events
  • Prepare process equipment data sheets, equipment lists, electrical usage, and utility usage lists
  • Work with other engineers in the development of new and upgraded processes
  • Develop control schemes for new processes
  • Test operational and controls aspects of newly developed processes using dynamic simulations
  • Check work performed by other process engineers
  • Assist in startup of plants in the field and assist in the preparation of Start-up and Operating Manuals
  • Assist the Clients to troubleshoots operational bottlenecks and recommend solutions to increase throughput.

Expected:
  • Bachelors, Masters, or Ph.D
  • Degree in Chemical Engineering
  • Minimum of 12 years of industry experience
  • Knowledge of chemical engineering "First Principles"
  • Working knowledge of Hysys Dynamics or Unisim Dynamics
  • Knowledge of cryogenic process technologies
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in LNG or hydrogen liquefaction or air separation processes
  • Understanding of natural gas processes and liquefaction of natural gas
  • Understanding of Upstream Production systems
  • Sound organizational skills for completing tasks as scheduled
  • Knowledge of Transient Pipeline simulators is an added advantage
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written for the purpose of explaining challenges and solutions internally
  • Good interpersonal skills to successfully interface other engineering disciplines and customers
