Wood is recruiting for a Senior Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to join its Oil & Gas Canada team. This opportunity is hybrid, based in Calgary, AB.

The Role
This role will be responsible for leading a team of engineers and technologists while ensuring compliance with Engineering Procedures and quality control standards. The Senior Instrumentation & Controls Engineer will oversee project execution, provide technical leadership, and participate in key project audits and reviews. Responsibilities also include specifying and selecting instrumentation, preparing control deliverables, and supporting HAZOP, LOPA, and SIL reviews. Additionally, the role will involve the preparation of Material Requisitions, Technical Bid Evaluations, and providing vendor support.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead a team of engineers and technologists
  • Ensure compliance with Engineering Procedures and quality control standards
  • Participate in project audits (quality and technical)
  • Support change notices for engineering work
  • Interface with various engineering disciplines and suppliers
  • Provide input to P&ID development
  • Specify, select, and size field instrumentation, control valves, on/off valves, relief valves, and control devices
  • Prepare and review control deliverables such as Control Philosophy, Control Narrative, Cause and Effect diagrams, and Control System Architecture
  • Participate in HAZOP, LOPA, and SIL reviews
  • Prepare and check Instrument Loop diagrams and System Cabinet designs/wiring
  • Review project documents for scope, presentation, and technical accuracy
  • Prepare Material Requisitions, Technical Bid Evaluations, and award recommendations for various instrumentation and control equipment
  • Provide technical support in SAT/FAT's

Expected:
  • Instrumentation Technologist / Bachelor's in Science or Engineering from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum of 8+ years of industry experience
  • Understanding and familiarity with API, ASME, CSA, and ISA codes and directives
  • Experience in the oil and gas sector, including SAGD, mining, midstream, upgrading, or refining
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple ongoing projects effectively
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills

Desirable:
  • Experience in the use of Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI/Intools)
  • Registration with APEGA as a P.ENG/P.L. (ENG) is an asset
