Your role and responsibilities

Technical lead for all engineering activities in executing projects for Enclosed Powertrain Packages. Ensure that activities related to all engineering disciplines within the project are efficiently and cost-effectively executed in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements. Leads the execution of medium-size projects for commissioning / maintenance projects within Enclosed Powertrain Packages and ensures that all related activities are performed in accordance with ABB policies, contractual agreements, quality standards, health, safety & environment requirements, financial targets, as well as schedule commitments. Technical contribution Engineering development As a technical lead for all Engineering disciplines - evaluates, selects, and applies standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform a task or sequence of tasks for conventional projects with few complex features. Executes assignments using established solutions. Review and approve Structural, Mechanical and Electrical design. Validate that supplier will meet the state certification requirement. Create and manage technical documentation. This includes site specific electrical studies like harmonic, load flow, arc flash and coordination studies. Authorization May act as a design authority for a particular engineering discipline and complete engineering assignments for that discipline. Construction and integration support Collaborates on E-House integration, project installation, commissioning, and site activities, clarifying potential issues or providing solutions to correct engineering errors. Offers technical support for commissioning and start-up activities. Commissioning and Maintenance support Support the after-delivery services team during activities Sales support Assists in creating proposals for engineering projects or programs through provision of bills of materials and estimated engineering hours for own discipline. Contract management Supports Contract Managers in issuing claims (new scope of work, cost impact, time impact, risk quantifications etc.). Planning and control Creates work plans and cost estimates for work in own area of responsibility and proactively manages this work to deliver the agreed program on time, on quality, and at the targeted cost. Risk and opportunity management Evaluates risks and opportunities, strategizes mitigation of one's engineering projects/programs. Supports the Project Manager in overall project risk and opportunity assessments and implementation of resulting actions. Identifies opportunities for repeating and new businesses. Customer Interacts with customers, contractors, suppliers. Attends project meetings and presents all technical aspects of project assignments. Supply chain management Oversees the creation of subcontracts and manages subcontractors jointly with other involved functions, including supply chain management. Technical leadership and knowledge sharing Collaborates and networks with engineering colleagues within ABB. Shares best practice across different projects and disciplines. Processes and tools Utilizes standard processes, tools, and techniques. Ensures that engineering activities comply with required safety regulations and contractual requirements. People leadership and development Leads, supervises, and coordinates teams in all engineering disciplines (both in-house and outsourced). Project Leadership Leads the project team allocated to the project, defining main guidelines, allocating project tasks, and motivating and monitoring internal and external resources to accomplish all tasks and milestones. Provides performance feedback regarding allocated resources working on projects. Planning and scheduling Defines, jointly with the After Delivery Services Manager, all project plan documents, including scope and financial plans, schedule, and risk management plans. Project execution and control Ensures that the project follows execution best practices and ABB policies. Effectively monitors and controls project progress and efficient resource utilization. Monitors and controls project financials, overseeing project invoicing status, cost, expenses, and cash flow. Identifies, qualifies, quantifies, and manages project risks, and ensures that all opportunities are identified and pursued. Captures, analyzes, and shares lessons learned throughout the project. Ensures that the project is formally closed out, as contractually agreed. Drives the formal acceptance of the project, contract close-out and its acknowledgement by the customer. Contract, claims, and procurement management Ensures that the project consistently applies contract and claims management according to ABB policies and contractual agreements. Coordinates with Supply Chain Management and successfully procures all required services, materials, and equipment for the project from external and internal suppliers. Supports Supply Chain Management in supplier negotiations, claims, and project changes. Stakeholder relations Acts as key contact for the customer and escalation point for project issues. Builds and maintains strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and effectively communicates with all stakeholders. Health, safety, and environment (HSE) Ensures the project follows and complies with company health, safety, and environmental policies.

Qualifications for the role

  • 10+ years of professional experience in an engineering / Project Manager role
  • Experience in Structural, Mechanical and Electrical systems in E-Houses (Electrical engineering background preferred)
  • Experience with Services like commissioning and maintenance program
  • Experience with State Certification process, national and/or local codes and regulations
  • Prior experience in managing high voltage electrical utility projects
  • Previous responsibility for projects or programs involving multiple businesses and/or functions across the entire project cycle, i.e. development and design through manufacturing, delivery, installation, and commissioning and test acceptance
  • Ability to manage external, customer-facing projects to successful completion
  • Ability to apply advanced technical, engineering, and quality assurance concepts to solve practical business problems
  • Experience collaborating with global teams and partners
  • Commitment to maintaining the highest standards of service quality in all aspects of project delivery
  • Ability to successfully interface with executive level management within both the sponsor and customer organizations
  • Ability to apply and coach managerial and leadership concepts and techniques
  • Decision-making skills, interpersonal & leadership skills coupled with or and written communications
  • Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple long and short-term projects simultaneously
  • PMI certification; familiarity with modern project management techniques &software systems, including global resource planning systems and Microsoft Project management software
  • Professional Engineer, registered in Canada
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
  • Familiarity with contractual terms and experience managing customer-facing contracts including proposal preparation for complex substations, which might include international work and quality training
