We are seeking an experienced Senior Energy Storage Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical and thermal design, development, and validation of Lithium-Ion Battery Packs and Fuel Cell energy storage systems. About the position:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Energy Storage Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical and thermal design, development, and validation of Lithium-Ion Battery Packs and Fuel Cell energy storage systems. This role offers the opportunity to work on groundbreaking energy solutions in a collaborative, forward-thinking environment. As a key member of our engineering team, you will:
- Define and execute system architecture while overseeing the design of critical components to ensure seamless integration with our vehicle platforms.
- Collaborate closely with systems engineering, styling, manufacturing, suppliers, and validation teams to deliver best-in-class energy solutions.
- Develop and define product requirements based on regulations, customer needs, and internal specifications.
- Design and validate mechanical and thermal systems for lithium-ion battery packs and fuel cells, ensuring compliance with performance and safety standards.
- Lead design strategies to optimize component reuse, manufacturability (DFM/DFA), and serviceability.
- Specify key materials and components (structures, fuses, housings, heating/cooling elements) to meet operational requirements.
- Develop detailed engineering documentation, including component and assembly drawings, tolerance analysis, and GD&T best practices.
- Oversee and support manufacturing process development and ensure smooth production transitions.
- Lead technical collaborations between system engineering and suppliers, ensuring seamless integration and fostering strong partnerships.
- Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning.
- Collaborate on battery management system design and electric system development.
- Author test plans, conduct experiments, and analyze results for system validation.
- Develop DFMEAs, PFDs, PFMEAs, and ensure alignment with industry best practices.
- Evaluate suppliers and contribute to Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP).
- Manage prototype system builds and troubleshoot design and production challenges.
- Drive industry advancements by leading research, influencing technical standards, and contributing to thought leadership through conference participation and industry collaborations.
- Occasional domestic and international travel (~10%) for supplier collaboration, industry events, and production support.
About You:
- Senior Engineer with deep expertise and a passion for developing energy solutions that drive real-world impact.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering.
- 10+ years of experience in automotive or similar product design and manufacturing, with a focus on electromechanical systems.
- Proven ability to communicate complex technical data concisely to internal teams, customers, and suppliers.
- Experience launching new designs into high-volume production.
- Strong ability to innovate in unstructured environments using analytical and experimental methods.
- Experience writing Engineering Specifications and Statements of Work for supplier management.
- Familiarity with industry standards such as UL, as well as new product design and validation System V models.
- Expertise in analytical problem-solving methodologies (8D, 5-Phase, RedX, Six Sigma, etc.).
- Strong technical aptitude, time management, and ability to manage competing priorities.
- Positive, strategic, and team-oriented mindset with a high standard for quality.
It would be great if you had:
- Strong expertise in electromechanical components and systems.
- Hands-on experience designing high-voltage lithium-ion battery modules and pack systems.
- Proficiency in 3D modeling software such as Creo, Catia, or similar tools.
- Experience with thermal/structural/fluid flow CAE tools.
- Familiarity with tooling and fixturing design for manufacturing improvements.
- Understanding of product safety standards (UL, EN, IEC, ANSI).
