AtkinsRéalis Canada Inc. (AtkinsRéalis) is currently seeking individuals to join our team in Trail as an Environmental Technician. The work will be from May through August. The role is primarily to support the field components of the Soil Management Program, as part of the Trail Area Health & Environment Program (www.thep.ca) out of the Trail, BC office, but may also include periodic support on other projects based in the area.
About the Thep:
The Trail Area Health & Environment Program (THEP) is a community program promoting health and the environment in the Trail BC area. THEP's focus is to promote children's healthy development and preventing lead exposure. We work with families and local residents, offering a comprehensive program of supports and up-to-date information. With over 25 years experience, our program has greatly improved air quality and reduced lead exposure in children through various programs including Family Health, Air Quality and Home & Garden. Our collaborative approach has been recognized with a BC Premier's Award. The AtkinsRéalis office in Trail delivers the Community Program Office portion of the THEP including soil assessment, soil management, the Healthy Homes, and Lead-safe Renovation support programs.

Your role within the team:
- Be a committed safety leader and adhere to safe work practices and procedures at all times
- Support work related to the Community Program Office of the THEP, specifically related to soil assessment and management on residential yards in Trail
- Support the collection of standardized paint screening data on residential sites throughout the Trail area
- Communicate regularly with supervisors and managers on field programs and progress
- Use good judgement to identify conditions and decisions that need attention and support
- Use an X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) device to screen soil and paint samples in the office
- Provide quality control evaluation of ground cover installations by soil management contractors
- Conduct ground cover evaluations on residential properties utilizing an ESRI ArcGIS data collection app
- Maintain accurate field notes and record keeping including measurements, site sketches and photographs
- Work with residents and the public to deliver information and services related to soil programs
- Work as a part of a team and assist with other projects and tasks (e.g. ground water monitoring)
- Perform accurate data entry into the programs Access database
- Comply with AtkinsRéalis Quality Management System

The ideal candidate:
- Experience with monitoring and field sampling techniques, including soil and water sampling, is an asset.
- Experience with GIS programs (e.g., ESRI ArcGIS) and data collection Apps (e.g., ESRI Collector, ESRI Survey 123) is an asset.
- Be enrolled in a recognized environmental program.
- Detail oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- A willingness to work with the public.
- Willing to work in variable climatic conditions, primarily heat.
- A valid drivers license is required for this position.
