The Reliability Engineer provides technical support to the refinery. The position coordinates reliability program improvements and performs engineering in support of site maintenance activities across multiple disciplines. This position provides technical support to the refinery to identify and eliminate equipment failures, improve the quality of new installations, operation of assets, maintenance repairs, and ensure work is done in accordance with required standards, best practices and applicable regulations and industry codes.

Responsibilities May Include:
  • Champion the Bad Actor improvement process through identification and implementation of solutions.
  • Lead failure analysis and develop Cause Maps as part of the RCA process
  • Optimize preventative maintenance strategies based on equipment criticality and history.
  • Develop equipment asset strategies and champion reliability improvements through the implementation process
  • Identifies key mechanical systems reliability indicators and ensures they are monitored, analyzed, and acted upon to increase equipment operational availability
  • Maintain key Reliability metrics
  • Communicate Reliability concerns, solutions, and trends effectively to the organization
  • Provide cost estimates, secure equipment, and follow construction through to commissioning on certain reliability improvement projects
  • Ensure MOC compliance
  • Periodic back fill for area discipline engineers and/or support for turnarounds

Required Qualifications:
  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • 3 or more years of experience in the refining or petrochemical industry as a reliability, maintenance, discipline, or process engineer

  • Must be willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to comply with the following:
    • Travel up to 5% of the time
    • Work unexpected emergencies and after-hour call outs
    • Work extended hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays
    • Transport articles up to 50 pounds
    • Work safely near large, hot, high-speed machines
    • Climb ladders and stairs up to 200 feet in height
    • Work around chemicals, including acids and bases
    • Work around hydrocarbons under high pressure and heat
    • Work outside in harsh weather conditions
    • Wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toe shoes, ear and eye protection)
    • Maintain face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven)

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5 or more years of experience working as a reliability, maintenance or discipline engineer supporting a refinery or petrochemical facility
  • Experience with SAP and Reliability Software (i.e., APM, Meridium)
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of the organization
  • Experience developing Cause Maps and leading Root Cause Analysis teams
  • Results oriented and committed to continuous learning and self-development

The Ferndale Refinery is located on Puget Sound in Ferndale, Washington, approximately 20 miles south of the U.S.-Canada border. Facilities include crude distillation, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation and hydrodesulfurization units. It processes a variety crude oils, including Alaskan North Slope, Canadian and other foreign and U.S. shale crudes, primarily delivered via marine vessel and pipeline. Within the refinery is a rail car crude oil receiving facility with a capacity of 30,000 BPD. This offloading facility, owned by Phillips 66 Partners, makes the receipt of additional crude by rail car possible. The refinery produces a high percentage of transportation fuels. Other products include residual fuel oil, which is supplied to the northwest marine bunker fuel market. Most refined products are distributed to customers by pipeline and barge to major markets in the northwestern United States.

Compensation

The base pay range for this role is $108,900 - $156,500 depending on a candidate's relevant work experience and education.
