Senior Instrument Engineer

Location: Onshore Operations, Doha, Qatar

Department: Maintenance

Position Type: Full-time / Permanent

 

Job Purpose

The Senior Instrument Engineer is responsible for providing maintenance and engineering support to the asset instrument and operations team. The role requires troubleshooting, contributing to maintenance strategies, and providing technical support in day-to-day operations.

 

Key Responsibilities

  1. Maintenance Quality Verification:
    • Ensure the execution of the department's maintenance quality verification program.

     

  2. Troubleshooting and Support:
    • Support operations and asset maintenance in troubleshooting and managing Level-2 complexity issues, as well as PM/CM activities per maintenance strategies.

     

  3. eMOC & Engineering Support:
    • Initiate and support eMOCs (Engineering Management of Change) and feasibility studies.
    • Implement engineering recommendations into asset instrumentation teams.

     

  4. Reliability and Failure Analysis:
    • Provide inputs to the Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) team and contribute to Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA), risk screening, and Formal Risk Assessment (FRA).

     

  5. Budget and Training Plans:
    • Contribute to the development of the budget, IT demand plan, and technical training plan.

     

  6. Spares Management:
    • Review and manage the availability of spares, raising Stock Amendment Requests (SAR) when necessary.

     

  7. Maintenance Procedures:
    • Support the review and development of maintenance procedures.

     

  8. Technical Training:
    • Provide in-house technical training to the asset maintenance team as part of the technical competency program.

     

  9. Contract Management:
    • Manage contracts related to instrumentation maintenance and repairs.

     

  10. Emergency Shutdown Tests:

     

  • Lead emergency shutdown (ESD) tests in line with the department's procedures.

 

Person Specification - Minimum Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science, majoring in Instrumentation & Controls Engineering.

Experience:

  • At least 6 years of experience in instrumentation and control within the oil and gas or petrochemical industries.
  • In-depth knowledge of surge controls, control valve maintenance, turbine instrumentation, and various field instruments such as DPT, RTD, thermowells, and RADAR level transmitters.
  • Intermediate knowledge of SAP systems.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and database applications.
  • Skilled in procedures development.
  • Strong competencies in training, competency assurance, and coaching/mentoring.
