Context :

Ambitious climate target of keeping global temperature rise below 2˚C was launched during COP21 in 2015. Recent COPs have focused on measures to achieve this goal. To meet the challenges of reaching climate targets, TotalEnergies has integrated climate into its strategy. TotalEnergies aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, with interim targets including a 40% reduction in net Scope 1+2 emissions by 2030 compared to 2015, and significant investments in renewable energy and electricity.

TotalEnergies is actively working to reduce its emissions, develop in renewable energies, help shape customer demand and develop carbon sinks. This ambition is backed by an integrated strategy across the gas, electricity and liquid fuels value chains, designed to decarbonize the Group's energy mix. In Norway, authorities have similar climate goals. In particular, reducing GHG emissions from Oil and gas business is a key objective, targeting at least 55% reduction by 2030 (compared to 1990) and net zero GHG emissions by 2050. In addition, Norway is getting more and more ambitious in the development of renewables, especially in offshore wind power. To reach this goal, a number of research, development and innovation measures have been put in place, including dedicated RD programs, strategic alliances and collaborative fora.

Within this environment, the job holder will contribute to identify ongoing business, research and development activities in Norway that are of interest for TotalEnergies, facilitate the interaction between the company and the R&D actors and follow-up some of the RD projects.

Missions :

Within the Stavanger Research Center (SRC), the main task of the job holder will be to systematically assess and report on ongoing and new initiatives with "Renewables and Low Carbon solutions" focus, including maintaining and developing further the Monthly Low carbon Newsletter. He/she will as well be involved in the assessment of and follow up of selected RD projects together with/on behalf of project managers based in the SRC or in headquarters. He/she will work closely with the RD Ecosystem Advisor and with the rest of the SRC team where relevant.

To contribute to the development of TotalEnergies in new areas, the job holder will work on the following topics based on the Innovation landscape in Norway, and when relevant include EU/strategic relationships for Norway:
  • Renewable energy (Onshore/offshore wind; bottom fixed and floating, solar, hydropower etc.)
  • Hydrogen (Blue and Green)
  • Energy storage
  • Regulatory aspects - Energy systems
  • Key RD and commercial actors on selected topics, including environmental issues
  • Funding opportunities for Energy Transition, Renewables and Low Carbon RD in Norway

The job holder will:
  • Share Information with HQ and in the affiliate by preparing and managing the monthly "Low Carbon and Renewables newsletter" that is focused on the Norwegian ecosystem (research, business, strategy etc.). It consists in gathering articles and press releases, providing additional information and put in context the news related to Norway and Norwegian players on different topics linked to energy transition.
  • Maintain and oversee the management tool used to follow-up of projects and opportunities.
  • Prepare written Memos/reports/highlight on selected topics and share/present information on a regular basis to SRC or the larger RD/One Tech community of the TotalEnergies company
  • Research and communicate/present more detailed information on key topics* (topics agreed with SRC based on regular report/general communication) to SRC, other relevant TotalEnergies R&D entities, wider TEPN/TotalEnergies fora
  • Follow-up some selected R&D projects according to the area of expertise, this includes to communicate with both external and internal stakeholders, prepare presentations on main outcomes and challenges of the project(s)

In addition to the above main activities, the job holder will support the SRC team with the following activities:
  • Capitalization of know-how and results from various technical and scientific documents delivered from JIPs
  • Be an integrated member of the SRC team and support joint team activities

Adaptations to the scope may be implemented as the work commences and based on the technical specialty of the job holder.

Candidate Profile

Expected qualifications :
  • Engineering degree in energy, renewable, environmental engineering

Technical skills :
  • Previous experiences related to renewables, low carbon solutions etc. will be a plus

Computing skills :
  • Basic knowledge in in some programming languages such as Phyton will be a plus.

Languages :
  • French : B2 level
  • English : B2 level
  • Scandinavian language will be a plus
