The Chief System Engineer is a key technical position that will work with the United States Geological Survey (USGS), NASA and other partners to provide strategic technical direction and oversight to the analysis, design, development, and/or characterization of the next generation of earth observing satellite systems with EROS as the primary ground system location. Responsibilities will include providing System Engineering expertise to complex, dynamic mission, and ground system activities. This position requires strong leadership, high level system thinking and ability to quickly evaluate different approaches. Core Responsibilities

• Coordinates, communicates, and provides technical status to other team members, TSSC management team and government customers.

• Responsible for System Engineering technical leadership and serves as Point Of Contact in support of USGS Landsat satellite missions.

• Works closely with USGS, NASA and mission-level partners to understand and analyze requirements for systems; design solutions to integrate and deliver these capabilities into mission systems.

• Supports mission formulation through system level trades and modeling with concentration on system technologies, satellite communication and architectural approaches.

• Provides leadership in the development of mission and system level requirements, concept of operations, interfaces, and performance measures.

• Evaluates opportunities to integrate innovative technologies and capabilities while minimizing impacts to legacy systems.

• Maintains System Engineering Management Plan and evaluates engineering compliance.

• Excellent communication skills will be necessary for the delivery of briefings, proposals, and program documentation to senior level management.

• Works with diverse engineering team located across the United States

• Provides mentoring for technical staff on system engineering and programmatic activities.

• Support risk assessment and analysis.

• Moderate travel may be required.

• Submit, analyze, and manage configuration change requests in accordance with established Configuration Management (CM) processes.

• Lead system anomaly investigations and troubleshooting activities.

• Lead special projects and initiatives as assigned.

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent.

Experience

• Minimum of 8 years related experience in Systems or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent.

• Experience with development of satellite programs is required.

• Experience with the Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites is preferred.

• Experience in overall systems engineering lifecycle in both waterfall and agile development environments.

Required Skills

• Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.

• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

• Satellite Architecture, mission operations or mission integration knowledge.

• Experience with Microsoft Office applications such as (Word, Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint).

• Experience in model/simulation development and operations

Desired Skills

• Mission Operations experience with an engineering focus

• Understanding of Systems Engineering principles

• Satellite Took Kit or similar knowledge.

Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident

The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation after hire to obtain a badge for facility access and user accounts.

Experience and/or Education in lieu of these qualifications will be reviewed for applicability to meet these requirements.
