Coating Engineer Responsibilities
  • Engineer the protection of equipment/assets by means of coating, insulation, and fireproofing in line with internal, project, and industry requirements—from coating system selection to application and testing. This may involve issuing engineering specifications, application procedures, technical notes, and testing plans.

  • Support package engineers, supply chain, and inspection teams on all coating, lining, insulation, and fireproofing scopes.

  • Assist other disciplines (piping, mechanical, structural, process, etc.) with input on coating, lining, insulation, and fireproofing matters.

  • Support construction teams at shipyards and fabrication yards on coating, lining, insulation, personnel protection, and fireproofing scopes.

  • Implement internal working instructions and contribute ideas and tools for improvements or new solutions.

  • Capture lessons learned (both improvements and opportunities) during the course of the project and report them for continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Ensure deliverables issued by equipment suppliers and manufacturers comply with company specifications and relevant international codes and standards.

  • Maintain alignment with colleagues working on material selection, corrosion, and cathodic protection to ensure a consistent overall materials and corrosion protection strategy.

Main Tasks
  • Review materials deliverables related to coating and lining from bulk material/equipment suppliers and subcontractors, such as coating procedures, quality plans, and inspection test plans.

  • Ensure quality and compliance of coating and lining systems in equipment packages and adherence to applicable project specifications.

  • Comply with internal technical standards and processes; raise comments and deviations when necessary.

  • Interface with subcontractors and fabrication yards to resolve coating and lining issues as required.

  • Provide technical advice and support on coating manufacturing, application, and inspection matters.

  • Suggest actions to prevent, minimize, or absorb deviations in terms of schedule and costs.

  • Collect project lessons learned to support continuous improvement.

Job Requirements
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in corrosion protection by coatings and linings in one or more of the following industries: shipbuilding, chemical, petrochemical or pharmaceutical process plants, or offshore process facilities (e.g., platforms).

  • Solid knowledge of international standards for the specification, application, and inspection of coatings and linings.

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, materials engineering, or a related field.

  • Willingness to be present in the office a few days per week regularly.

  • Professional coating specialist qualifications are desirable.

  • Able to work independently while maintaining effective communication and a collaborative spirit.

  • Willingness to travel globally to fabrication yards, vendor premises, and construction sites.

  • Ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously with flexibility, strong analytical thinking, and organizational skills.

  • Strong communication skills, a sense of ownership, and initiative-taking ability.

  • A team player comfortable working in a multicultural environment, willing to share knowledge, and advocate for standardization and simplification.

  • Ability to multitask effectively using design thinking principles while handling several projects concurrently.

  • Proactive and self-driven, focused on delivering results efficiently.

  • Good proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
