Wood is recruiting for a Chief Marine Engineer - Adhoc (Casual /Temporary) to join its Operations team focusing on the oil and gas petrochemical industry. This opportunity is offshore Newfoundland and Labrador, working on an as needed, call-out basis.

The Role
  • Location: Offshore Newfoundland and Labrador
  • Site / Office based: Terra Nova FPSO
  • Hours of work: 12 hours per day
  • Rotation / work pattern: Call out, as needed
  • Required: Site-specific medical, drug and alcohol testing

As our Chief Engineer you will provide leadership to the maintenance team in all maintenance related activities to ensure our systems and equipment is safely and effectively maintained onboard the Terra Nova Floating, Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel. During times of FPSO disconnect from offshore mooring systems you will fill the role of Chief Engineer reporting to the Captain and will be responsible for the operation / maintenance of all marine equipment to meet the required certification and adherence to all marine regulations.

You will be working in confined spaces and/or at heights, as well as noisy conditions. Work may be indoors or outdoors, and at extreme temperatures.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Typical responsibilities:
  • Manage the area maintenance team to ensure effective, efficient and safe execution of all maintenance and repair operations.
  • Collaborate with the Operations Coordinator to create and distribute the daily work assignments based on the weekly maintenance schedule and CFT approved break-in and scope creep work.
  • Monitor daily maintenance activity and ensure adherence to all work processes and the permit to work system.
  • Provide feedback and support to planning, reliability engineering, management and/or document control to foster continued improvements.
  • Ensure regulatory and class compliance is met for Transport Canada, Lloyds Register and CNLOPB.
  • Participate as a part of an offshore emergency response team
  • Promote the Terra Nova safety culture through participation in, and management of, our safety reporting system for both you and your team.
  • Report and investigate as required all accidents, near misses and hazardous conditions
  • Gain familiarity and manage in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement(s)


QUALIFICATIONS

What makes you remarkable?

Expected:
  • 10 years of relevant industry experience
  • Transport Canada First Class Engineer Certificate (Motor) with STCW endorsement
  • Advanced Training for Oil Tanker Endorsement
  • Valid Marine Emergency Duties Certificate (MED for senior officers - MED D)
  • High Voltage Safety Training (Marine) an asset
  • Valid refrigeration handling certificate an asset
  • Front line Supervisory experience - min. 5 years
  • Working knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance, condition monitoring and with the application of computerized maintenance management systems

Preference for:
  • Front line leadership experience in an industrial setting
  • Chief engineer with oil tanker experience
  • Working knowledge of oil and gas production process related systems and equipment
  • Experience with the operation and maintenance of gas turbine driven generators, diesel engines, multi-stage centrifugal pumps and compressors, HVAC systems, hydraulic systems and associated auxiliary equipment
  • Working knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance, condition monitoring and with the application of computerized maintenance management systems
  • An understanding of control of work processes and systems
  • Effective communication and conflict resolution skills (written, oral and computer)
  • Collaboration skills in order to achieve the best results and deliver the most value
  • The following Offshore Certificates and Training is required and would be considered an asset:
    • Basic Survival Training (BST) including HUET and HUEBA
    • Advanced Rigging, Slinging, and Banksman
    • Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S) Alive
    • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS 2015)
    • Offshore Safety Regulatory Awareness
    • Fall Protection
    • Confined Space Entry
    • Emergency First Aid
    • Understanding of permit to work and work management systems

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to safely lift and carry up to 50lbs
  • Must possess enough strength and stamina to perform the technical duties and essential functions as identified above
  • Able to move and work in confined spaces, following proper protocol
  • May be required consistently to work 12-hour shifts performing physical labour in varying temperature extremes and conditions. May be required to work overtime on occasion
  • Must be able to climb and maintain balance on stairs, ladders, scaffolds and steel framework, utilizing proper fall arrest procedures when required. Able to safely and comfortably work at heights without posing a danger to oneself or others
  • Able to meet physical requirements of frequent walking, climbing, standing, bending, twisting and crawling for the duration of the shift
