Job Purpose
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Mechanical Commissioning Lead to join a major offshore development programme based in Qatar. This role offers the chance to play a key part in a complex and technically demanding environment, overseeing the commissioning of a wide range of mechanical systems and infrastructure across both onshore and offshore facilities.
The position provides direct interface with engineering teams, site operations, contractors, and vendor representatives. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring mechanical commissioning activities are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with international best practice.
This is an ideal role for a proactive professional with strong leadership capability and hands-on experience in commissioning large-scale oil and gas projects.
Key Responsibilities

Provide technical leadership and day-to-day oversight of all mechanical commissioning activities, including pre-commissioning, functional testing, and system handover.

Interface with contractor teams and vendors to ensure that systems are commissioned safely, on time, and in line with project specifications and quality standards.

Supervise and support workshop testing, vendor inspections, and factory acceptance tests where required.

Review commissioning procedures, P&IDs, datasheets, and general arrangement drawings to verify technical accuracy and readiness.

Ensure mechanical systems meet the required standards for operational handover.

Provide support to operations and start-up teams during the transition to operational status.

Monitor progress, manage risks, and contribute to SIMOPS planning and execution.

Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements across all phases of commissioning.
Candidate Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Applied Sciences (Mechanical or equivalent discipline).

At least 8 years’ experience in commissioning roles within the oil and gas industry, including a minimum of one year in a supervisory or oversight capacity.

Familiarity with complex infrastructure and multi-discipline commissioning, preferably across both onshore and offshore environments.

Expertise in interpreting P&IDs, technical datasheets, layout drawings, and commissioning documentation.

Strong understanding of systems completion processes, mechanical discipline interfaces, and commissioning management systems.

Prior exposure to working with international contractors and vendors, particularly on packages such as compressors, power generation, topsides, control systems, and mechanical utilities.

Demonstrated knowledge of international codes, standards, and engineering specifications.

Experience supporting start-up teams and operations readiness is highly desirable.

Previous involvement in high-specification energy projects, preferably in an international or multicultural setting.
