As a PLC Controls Engineer I at Honeywell, you will be responsible for implementing electrical projects for integrated systems or sub-systems. This includes planning, reporting, and managing the electrical aspects of the project, as well as hands-on technical implementation. You will take full ownership of the electrical project components, executing and/or delegating tasks throughout the project life cycle by coordinating and forecasting electrical resources both in-house and on-site (which may include other Controls Project Engineers). In this role, you will apply a systems approach to understand core design features, project elements, and the overall electrical architecture-managing scope, budget, and schedule while maintaining both internal and external customer expectations throughout the project life cycle.
You will report directly to our Sr. Software Engineering Supervisor and work full-time onsite at either our Mason, OH or Louisville, KY facility. This role involves approximately 50-60% travel, primarily within the continental U.S., with occasional trips to Mexico or Canada. Travel typically occurs during the field phase of a project, following an initial onsite development period. While home, you will continue working onsite at your assigned location.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Implement automation projects for material handling systems by developing and deploying PLC code.
• Interpret AutoCAD layouts and schematics for programming purposes.
• Develop and test PLC prototypes both internally and on-site.
• Ensure standardization of programming and commissioning methods in line with Intelligrated standards.
• Execute all testing phases, including internal and customer acceptance (BUAT, UAT, FAT).
• Track and report project progress using task lists and timelines.
• Contribute to and maintain documentation in the appropriate project repositories.
• Contribute to the creation and execution of detailed test plans, including Internal Testing, In-House Testing, On-Site Commissioning, and Acceptance.
• Attend weekly team meetings and update schedules/tasks as needed.
• Communicate clearly across interdisciplinary teams and leadership.
• Provide timely technical updates and status reports on projects.
• Conduct on-site customer training on the operation, functionality, and basic troubleshooting of machinery.
• Create and modify electrical drawings and schematics using AutoCAD (preferably AutoCAD Electrical).
• Apply sound electrical design principles in the development of schematics, layouts, and network diagrams.
• Travel approximately 50-60% of the time for project execution and on-site support.

YOU MUST HAVE
• Experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs.
• Proficiency in PLC programming and electrical design, including:
o Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Modicon or Beckhoff PLCs
o Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
o Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs)
o Industrial network protocols
• Familiarity with:
o Studio 5000, Logix 5000, RSLinx
o FactoryTalk View
o B&R Automation Studio
o AutoCAD / AutoCAD Electrical
o Microsoft Office 365
