Sr. Advanced Embedded Engineer

As a Sr. Advanced Embedded Engineer here at Honeywell, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing advanced embedded solutions using Microchip microcontrollers. You will be responsible for designing, coding, testing, and debugging embedded software to meet project requirements. Your expertise in Microchip microcontrollers will be instrumental in driving innovation and ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality embedded solutions.

You will report directly to our Engineering Manager and you'll work out of our Badalona, Spain location on a on-site schedule.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact by developing cutting-edge embedded solutions that will shape the future of Honeywell's products and technologies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design, develop, and test embedded software using Microchip microcontrollers PIC32CZ
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project requirements and deliverables
  • Debug and resolve software issues to ensure high-quality and reliable embedded solutions
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in Microchip microcontrollers and embedded systems


YOU MUST HAVE
  • 6+ years of experience in embedded software development
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong knowledge of microcontroller architectures, specifically Microchip PIC32CZSolid understanding of hardware and software integration
  • Strong debugging skills using JTAG, SWD, and serial debuggers
  • Extensive experience in C and C++ programming for embedded systems.
  • Experience with RTOS-based and bare-metal firmware development.
  • Proven experience developing custom bootloaders for embedded devices.
  • Strong understanding of firmware update mechanisms (USB, UART, I2C, SPI, CAN, Ethernet).
  • Knowledge of secure boot mechanisms, including authentication, encryption, and rollback protection.
  • Experience in memory management and Flash programming (NVM, EEPROM, external flash).
  • Proficiency in designing and implementing communication protocols such as:
    • UART, I2C, SPI, USB, CAN, and Ethernet
    • Custom firmware update protocols
    • Experience working with wireless firmware updates (OTA) is a plus.
  • Experience with unit testing and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing.
  • Proficiency in tools like Microchip MPLAB X IDE, MPLAB Harmony, and IAR Embedded Workbench

THE BUSINESS UNIT

This position is under the Building Communications Release Train. The products are infrastructure devices to enhance indoor Public Safety Communications. ERCES (Emergency Radio Communication Enhancement System) including Bidirectional Amplifiers and Digital Fiber Optic Distributed Antenna Systems. The platform under these products combine different disciplines and the microcontroller is the brain of it performing the following activities:
  • Communication to FPGA that is doing the Digital Signal Processing
  • USB interface to users to configure and monitor the device.
  • RS484 communication to external proprietary peripherals.
  • Communication to Ethernet Gateway
  • Manage status of the different parts of the platform.
