Description

Job Summary
To analyze, plan, and design natural gas distribution systems using engineering principles, hydraulic models, and system knowledge. The Engineer will execute measurable results in system analysis and reliability, long range planning, and peak demand preparedness. Collaboration is essential with key stakeholders across the Company, including engineering, operations, energy supply, sales, finance, regulatory, and compliance.

Essential Functions
  • Conduct feasibility studies to determine gas service requirements for existing and potential customers
  • Develop long range plans for infrastructure replacement, load growth, and system optimization
  • Build, utilize, and maintain hydraulic models to analyze and plan natural gas distribution systems
  • Verify hydraulic model performance using actual system flows/pressures & calibrate hydraulic models using statistical regression analyses of market and large customer demands
  • Develop winter operations plans and SCADA alarm parameters
  • Collaborate with gas control and supply services on capacity management and planning
  • Recommend placement of pressure charts to identify and investigate potential deficiencies and optimize recommendations to maintain/enhance gas distribution infrastructure reliability
  • Provide guidance to Gas Systems Planning Technicians
  • In case of emergency situations or abnormal operating conditions, the Engineer will identify the issue/s, analyze computer simulations, and develop recommendations
  • Perform single and multi-variable regression analyses by gathering and interpreting market data, determining statistically valid variables, and applying peaking factors correlated to the total market demand at design conditions

Required Qualifications For Position

Assoc Gas Sys Planning Eng 1
  • Bachelor's Degree Bachelors of Science Degree in Engineering
  • Experience in managing capital expenditures and establishing investment priorities
  • Experience in working with peer groups across multiple locations
  • 1-3 years 2 years of progressive experience in gas distribution operations and engineering
  • Strong PC skills including Microsoft Office applications, proficient in Excel
  • Understanding of capital budgeting
  • Understanding of hydraulic theory
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to drive projects/assignments to completion in a complex, deadline driven environment
  • Strong Problem Solving and Critical Thinking Skills
  • Proficient with using Synergi software.
  • Proficient with using Microsoft Access.
  • Thorough knowledge/understanding of company standards/policies and applicable regulatory codes relative to engineering and operations.
  • Understanding of statistical theory and applications
  • DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State Valid driver's license Upon Hire

Required Qualifications For Position

Gas Systems Design Engineer 1
  • Graduate from a four year ABET accredited college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering program OR four year ABET accredited program with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology
  • 1+ years of job relevant experience in related field
  • Demonstrated experience with AutoCad and PC based applications
  • Ability to travel 30% to 60% of time (depending on successful candidate's location) within the NiSource footprint, including days in consecutive weeks
  • Demonstrated project management capabilities
  • DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State Valid driver's license Upon Hire

Required Qualifications For Position

  • Bachelor's Degree In Engineering from an EAC/ABET accredited college or university
  • Complete training, development and advancement criteria required for the Associate Gas Systems Planning Engineer 2 level
  • Demonstrated PC skills and software knowledge (e.g. Microsoft Office)
  • Proficiency with Synergi Gas or equivalent hydraulic modeling software
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Access and Excel
  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Understanding of fluid mechanics fundamentals
  • Understanding of statistical theory
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and regulations
  • Knowledge of capital budgeting and establishing investment priorities
  • Knowledge of Company policies, procedures, and standards
  • Knowledge of Company systems and technical business applications (e.g. DIS, GASCalc, GIS, WMS)
  • Knowledge of natural gas measurement and regulation design, operation, and maintenance
  • Knowledge of gas supply and issues related to gas distribution
  • Knowledge of materials/fittings and construction practices related to gas distribution
  • Strong project management skills

Required Qualifications For Position

Senior Gas Systems Design Engineer
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology Degree from an ABET accredited program
  • Successful completion of a balanced mix of courses in Measurement, Regulation, and related equipment design (courses may include, but are not limited to, those sponsored by IGT, manufacturers, natural gas industry associations, higher learning institutions or company)
  • 5+ years relevant job experience in related field.
  • Demonstrated experience with AutoCAD and PC based applications
  • Ability to travel 30% to 60% of time (depending on successful candidate's location) within the NiSource footprint, including days in consecutive weeks
  • DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State Upon Hire

Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position
  • Master's Degree In Business or Engineering
  • 1-3 years Minimum of 2-3 years experience working geographically dispersed
  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) license Upon Hire
  • Certified Project Management Professional (PMP)-PMI Project Management Professional (PMP) certification Upon Hire

Salary Range*:
$67,900.00 - $165,300.00

*The salary offered to a candidate is based on several factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills, job-related knowledge, and relevant experience , as well as internal pay equity .
