Purpose of the Role

The Lead Piping Engineer is responsible for the complete engineering lifecycle of piping systems across assigned projects. This includes oversight of design, drafting, interdisciplinary integration, and technical delivery. The role ensures compliance, quality, and constructability throughout all project phases while leading a multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure high-quality, timely delivery of all piping engineering documentation in line with project requirements and applicable codes.
• Supervise and guide engineering and drafting personnel within the piping discipline across all project areas (onshore, offshore, process, drilling).
• Define and manage scope, budget, schedules, procedures, and staffing for discipline-specific workstreams.
• Track and analyze productivity, manhour usage, and cost control metrics, applying corrective measures where necessary.
• Lead interface coordination with procurement, materials, construction, QA/QC, and other engineering teams.
• Prepare purchase specifications and review technical evaluations of piping materials and equipment.
• Manage design studies and provide input into project estimation and constructability analysis.
• Coordinate documentation readiness for procurement and construction milestones, and ensure audit compliance.
• Monitor performance of engineering team members, facilitate development, and manage discipline resource planning.
• Promote project safety and quality standards, constructability awareness, and value-engineering practices.

   

Education Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (Master's degree is an advantage).

Experience & Background

• Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in engineering, including 5 years in a supervisory position.
• Experience in Pre-FEED, FEED, and Detailed Design stages.
• International or GCC region experience is beneficial.

Technical Skills

• Strong expertise in piping system design and construction for oil & gas and industrial facilities.
• Deep understanding of applicable codes, specifications, and stress analysis techniques.
• Skilled in PDMS/E3D, Caesar II, AutoCAD, Navisworks, and material management platforms.
• Familiarity with procurement support, pipe layout optimization, and interdisciplinary coordination.
• ERP knowledge, particularly SAP, is preferred.
• Effective communicator and decision-maker in cross-functional environments.
