Purpose of the Role
The Lead Mechanical Engineer serves as the technical lead and primary coordinator for all mechanical engineering and drafting activities within the project. This role oversees mechanical team performance, ensures compliance with project requirements, and supports overall interdisciplinary coordination to deliver safe, efficient, and cost-effective mechanical solutions across all phases of the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality mechanical engineering documentation that meets project specifications, schedules, and regulatory standards.
- Lead and supervise mechanical engineering personnel, assigning and reviewing work to meet productivity and quality expectations.
- Define scope, budgets, resource plans, and schedules for mechanical discipline execution across onshore, offshore, and modular facilities.
- Track manpower usage, monitor progress against baseline plans, and take corrective action on any variances.
- Support procurement through specification development, vendor evaluations, and technical bid reviews.
- Lead technical reviews and design studies related to rotating and static equipment, piping layouts, and constructability.
- Prepare reports and interface with estimating teams to provide mechanical engineering inputs for cost planning.
- Oversee compliance with engineering assurance audits, project principles, and safety requirements.
- Develop discipline-specific technical documentation to support procurement and construction milestones.
- Manage the performance and development of assigned staff and ensure timely transition of resources as work packages close.
- Facilitate cross-discipline coordination with process, piping, structural, electrical, instrumentation, and project controls teams.
- Reinforce a high-performance, safety-driven culture aligned with project and organizational objectives.
Education Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized institution.
Experience & Background
- Minimum 8 years of experience in mechanical engineering within major projects, including 5 years in a supervisory or team lead capacity.
- Experience with Pre-FEED, FEED, and Detailed Design phases is essential.
- Prior exposure to large-scale EPC projects in the GCC region or equivalent is a strong advantage.
Technical Skills
- Expertise in mechanical equipment design, including both rotating and static equipment.
- Deep knowledge of international mechanical codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API, ISO, ANSI).
- Understanding of EPC execution practices, equipment specification, installation, and lifecycle design.
- Proficiency in mechanical engineering and design tools; experience with SAP or equivalent ERP systems is preferred.
- Risk-aware approach to engineering delivery within cost and schedule constraints.
