Job Title: Principal Engineer - Instrumentation (Measurement Systems)
Location: Doha, Qatar
We are recruiting on behalf of a major energy operator to find an experienced Principal Engineer with strong expertise in instrumentation and hydrocarbon measurement systems. This role is suited for a technically driven professional looking to work in a high-profile position within the oil and gas industry, focusing on fiscal, custody transfer, royalty, and allocation measurement compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide engineering support and assurance for hydrocarbon measurement systems across upstream and downstream operations.
- Ensure systems comply with internal measurement guidelines and international industry standards.
- Lead or support design reviews, factory and site acceptance testing, and commissioning activities.
- Develop and maintain internal measurement standards, procedures, and best practices.
- Design and execute technical assessment and verification programmes.
- Review and provide feedback on project scopes, budgets, and measurement-related deliverables.
- Assess and respond to operator exemption and dispensation requests.
- Investigate and help resolve measurement discrepancies and mismeasurement reports.
- Review allocation and reconciliation procedures for production data across joint ventures.
- Define minimum measurement requirements for commercial and billing-related agreements.
- Contribute to training and mentoring of junior engineers within the measurement discipline.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Instrumentation, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
- At least 15 years of experience in instrumentation and measurement systems within the oil and gas sector.
- Strong understanding of international measurement standards and uncertainty calculations.
- In-depth knowledge of various metering technologies (gas, liquid, multiphase, solid).
- Experience in risk analysis and mismeasurement investigations.
- Working knowledge of instrumentation assessments, product allocation, and reconciliation.
- Exposure to legal, technical, and commercial elements of fiscal measurement systems.
- Excellent English communication skills, including technical writing and reporting.
