Project Director
Location: Atyrau, Kazakhstan
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Project Director to lead and oversee high-value and complex projects across multiple sectors. The Project Director will ensure the successful planning, execution, and delivery of projects, meeting all client requirements, while maintaining strict control over budgets, schedules, quality, and safety standards.
The ideal candidate will have extensive project management and leadership experience, ensuring the highest levels of performance, technical compliance, and client satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the overall planning, coordination, and control of projects to ensure functional, financial, and operational viability in line with client expectations
- Develop and manage cost-effective project plans and processes across all phases
- Implement quality control procedures to ensure compliance with engineering standards and project requirements
- Manage the utilisation of planning software to track variations, disruptions, and associated impacts
- Maintain close oversight of all project activities, ensuring regular coordination meetings and closure of deliverables, inspections, and approvals
- Supervise engineering design and construction supervision activities
- Oversee project cost control, advising on cost efficiencies, and ensuring overall financial compliance
- Establish and maintain cost allocation schedules, reporting regularly to management and clients
- Set procurement targets aligned to project cost and schedule requirements
- Manage budget control measures, tracking variations, and maintaining financial discipline
- Identify strategies to maximise project earnings and support tender processes
- Ensure proper asset and liability management throughout the project lifecycle, including subcontractor payments, bonds, and cash flow monitoring
- Lead project risk management activities, identifying and mitigating risks and hazards
- Oversee human resources activities including staffing, evaluations, and dispute resolution within project teams
- Lead all commercial and cost planning activities including contract administration, claims management, and value engineering
- Maintain strong client relationships, negotiate contracts effectively, and ensure excellent service delivery
- Ensure compliance with ERP systems (preferably SAP) for accurate project tracking and reporting
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration
- Professional qualification in Civil Engineering is highly preferred
- Minimum 15 years' working experience, with at least 10 years in a management or leadership position
- GCC experience (5 years) is advantageous
- Proven ability to manage complex, high-value construction and infrastructure projects
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- In-depth understanding of engineering drawings, specifications, and QA/QC standards
- Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
- Strong financial and commercial acumen with cost control and risk management capabilities
- Proficiency with ERP systems (preferably SAP)
