Senior Principal Process Engineer
Location: Doha, Qatar
A leading energy sector organisation is seeking a highly experienced Senior Principal Process Engineer to contribute to the performance and strategic value delivery of large-scale downstream facilities. This role involves performance analysis, process optimisation, and technical input into high-value development opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor facility performance against design targets, production yields, and operating expectations.
- Provide expert technical review of facility reliability, operability, availability, and maintainability.
- Conduct process simulations using software such as HYSYS to verify key parameters and support performance monitoring.
- Lead external benchmarking efforts and drive performance towards first-quartile results across capacity, cost, and reliability metrics.
- Analyse work plans and budgets for alignment with organisational goals and recommend adjustments.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction, capacity creep, debottlenecking, and carbon footprint minimisation.
- Support the development of downstream strategies and provide input during commercial negotiations.
- Ensure lessons learned from operational facilities inform future design and project development.
- Mentor and train junior engineers to support talent development and succession planning.
- Coordinate with technology providers and consultants to incorporate new trends and innovations.
- Review asset performance and produce internal reporting for senior leadership.
- Verify GHG data submissions for compliance with corporate procedures and ensure timely reporting.
- Analyse flare reporting data and track progress in flared gas reduction.
- Prepare board-level briefings and recommendations for joint venture reviews and budget approvals.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering required; advanced degree preferred.
- At least 18 years of relevant industrial experience, including a minimum of 7 years in refinery operations.
- Background in plant management with exposure to commercial and business development activities.
- Proficient in financial evaluation methods including NPV, IRR, and ROCE.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities.
- High proficiency in MS Office; openness to using AI tools.
- Personal qualities include resilience, adaptability, commitment to learning, and a collaborative approach.
