Description
POSITION DESCRIPTION:

We are looking for a Head of Future Energy Technology Center (FETC) to join our System Business Division to lead the strategic development of next-generation hardware and power electronics systems, including firmware for intelligent energy products. The ideal candidate will have experience in renewable energy systems and power electronics and will work closely with cross-functional global teams including firmware, mechanical, software, and product planning. This position will be based out of Santa Clara, CA.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide strategic leadership and technical oversight for all hardware and firmware-related R&D activities at FETC.
  • Build and lead a world-class engineering team focused on power electronics and firmware development.
  • Lead the full lifecycle of next-generation technology development, from advanced R&D to the successful transfer of technology to product development teams.
  • Collaborate closely with global product development organizations to ensure successful realization of technologies in final mass-production products.
  • Define and maintain comprehensive technology roadmaps aligned with future product strategies and market needs.
  • Drive innovation across PV inverters, energy storage system ( ESS ) , microinverters, and related energy products.
  • Develop and validate advanced power conversion topologies and control algorithms (e.g., LLC, DAB, multi-level converters).
  • Guide firmware development for digital control on DSPs, microcontrollers, and FPGAs.
  • Lead partnerships with external research institutions and technology scouting initiatives.
  • Represent FETC in global strategy meetings and align R&D vision with corporate goals.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 15+ years of experience in renewable energy, power electronics, or related sectors.
  • PhD or MS in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in hardware and firmware development for power systems.
  • Strong leadership experience managing multidisciplinary teams (12+ members ).
  • Deep expertise in converter topologies, digital control systems, and embedded development.
  • Proficiency with simulation tools such as PSIM, MATLAB, SPICE , as well as hardware validation methodologies.
  • Strong communication skills with stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in the solar and energy storage industry.
  • Familiarity of certification and compliance standards (UL 1741, IEEE 1547, NEC).
  • Experience in SiC / GaN device integration or ASIC design.
  • Proven track record of taking power electronics products from concept to commercialization.
  • Hands-on experience with EMI/EMC testing and reliability analysis.
  • Knowledge with smart IoT energy system integration.

The salary range is required by the California Pay Transparency Act and may differ depending on the location of those candidates hired nationwide. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to, skill set, education, licenses and certifications, essential job duties and requirements, and the necessary experience relative to the job's minimum qualifications.
