National Grid is hiring an Engineer, NY Construction for our Gas Construction and Maintenance department in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, NY.

Job Purpose

The Engineer will provide technical expertise and support from an engineering and field execution perspective, ensuring construction activities are performed in accordance with National Grid policy, procedures and standards. The Engineer will also be required to understand the process around sewer, water, catch basins and other installations associated with NYC/LI municipalities.

This will encompass a range of duties including field construction, maintenance, repair, safety implementation and monitoring and participation in determining field constructability of small- and large-scale projects.

Key Accountabilities

Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

• Provide gas engineering and design for distribution pipelines, bridge/highway/waterway crossings, associated with City/State construction, based on scopes aligned with system and customer requirements.
• Under supervision of a Senior Engineer or Lead Engineer, evaluate construction processes with consideration to operation, safety and maintenance requirements to make recommendations and subsequently develop plans for improvements.
• Familiarity and application of NYC CET, EP-7 and Joint-Bid items and negotiations.
• Basic understanding of the application of NYC Administrative Code as applied to DEP/DDC work.
• Manage, maintain and monitor gas main encroachment databases to ensure compliance with all federal, local and regulatory requirements.

• Maintain register of existing pipelines and corresponding linear attributes.
• Identify pipeline risk and development of mitigation strategies.
• Perform regulatory reporting on pipeline assets.
• Provide technical support for the protection of gas facilities and update procedures where necessary.
• Provide enterprise-wide support for the implementation of new or updated standards, procedures and work practices.
• Assure effective and timely development of change management plans for policy changes in concert with technical learning and process owners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering in an approved engineering discipline from an ABET accredited engineering school required
• Valid driver's license required
• Must be able to work overtime and off-hours as necessary
• Must be able to travel overnight to other work areas, as necessary

Salary

$109,000 - $128,000 a year
