Mechanical Rotating & Static Equipment Specialist - Tanzania

On behalf of a major operator, WRS are hiring a Mechanical Specialist to oversee the construction, installation, and commissioning of static and rotating mechanical equipment on a large-scale oil & gas pipeline construction project. This role will be based on-site in Tanzania with some international travel for vendor follow-ups. The position will be offered on a 12 month renewable contract, rotating 8 weeks in country/2 weeks off, paying a day rate in USD.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support contractors in the mechanical execution of pipeline, facilities, and terminal components.
• Ensure equipment is stored, installed, and maintained to industry standards.
• Assist in interpreting designs and resolving site-based mechanical issues.
• Monitor and coordinate inspections, testing, and quality documentation.
• Validate lifting/transportation studies, manage punch lists, and ensure readiness for commissioning.
• Lead or assist in structural and mechanical inspections, and ensure compliance with project specs.
• Track construction milestones and ensure timely project delivery.

Requirements:

• Technical diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field.
• 10 years’ experience in oil & gas site construction.
• 5 years in a mechanical superintendent or specialist role.
• Expertise in both static and rotating equipment, and relevant industry standards (API, ANSI, AWS).
• Experience working on pipeline construction projects
• Experience working for an Oil & Gas operator
• Strong understanding of construction planning and critical path activities.
• Fluent in English; experience with multicultural teams is a must.
