The Process Reliability Engineer analyzes equipment histories, and trends; recommends and implements procedures, strategies, equipment, or designs that will eliminate defects and improve equipment and system reliability. The position also coordinates reliability program improvements and performs engineering in support of site operations and maintenance activities across multiple disciplines. This position provides technical support to the refinery to identify and eliminate equipment failures, improve the quality of new installations, operation of assets, maintenance repairs, and ensure work is done in accordance with required standards, best practices and applicable regulations and industry codes, and is responsible for guiding management and organizational partners in respective field.
The Reliability Team was developed to focus on the refinery as a whole, to key in on specific issues with the greatest impact on overall refinery performance. The multi-disciplined team works to generate ideas and actions, working with area personnel, and drives them through implementation, to improve performance of 'bad actor' equipment and systems, provide general oversight on project implementation, turnaround scope development, and maintenance prioritization.

The Wood River Refinery is located in Roxana, Illinois, about 15 miles northeast of St. Louis, Missouri, at the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers. Refinery facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrocracking, hydrodesulfurization and delayed coking units. The refinery processes a mixture of light, low-sulfur; heavy, high sulfur; and high-acid crude oil. The crude supply is sourced domestically or from Canada. Wood River produces a high percentage of transportation fuels. Other products include petrochemical feedstocks, asphalt and petroleum coke. Refined products are distributed to customers by pipeline, rail car, barge and truck and are shipped to markets throughout the Midcontinent region.
The base pay range for this role is $111,600 - $160,700 depending on a candidate's relevant work experience and education.

Responsibilities May Include:
- Champion the Bad Actor and Vulnerability improvement processes through identification and implementation of solutions.
- Lead failure analysis and develop Cause Maps as part of the RCA process.
- Champion the Reliability Operating Limit program - ensuring long-term operating compliance across the site to improve operational reliability
- Assist area discipline engineers with troubleshooting of long-term process issues to identify defects and develop corrective and improvement recommendations.
- Optimize preventative maintenance and sampling strategies based on equipment criticality and history.
- Develop equipment asset strategies and champion reliability improvements through the implementation process.
- Identifies key system reliability indicators and ensures they are monitored, analyzed, and acted upon to increase equipment operational availability.
- Maintain key Reliability metrics around equipment repair history, cost, lost profit opportunity, rework, etc.
- Communicate Reliability concerns, solutions, and trends effectively to the organization.
- Provide cost estimates, secure equipment, and follow construction through to commissioning on certain reliability improvement projects.
- Periodic backfill for area discipline engineers and/or support for turnarounds.
- Willing and able to respond to and assist with unexpected emergencies and after-hours call-outs.
Required Qualifications:
- Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related field
- 5 or more years of experience in the refining, petrochemical, or related industry as Process or Operations engineer
- Willing and able to respond to and assist with unexpected emergencies and after-hour call outs
- Ability to manage a large workload and changing priorities
- Strong and effective communication skills (verbal and written) in both individual and group settings
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to work well with others
- Knowledge of PSM

- Willing and able to perform and comply with the following, with or without reasonable accommodation:
- Travel up to 5% of the time
- Work occasional extended hours, which may include evenings, weekends and holidays
- Work safely near large, hot, high-speed machines

- Confined space entry during turnarounds and equipment outages

- Work around hydrocarbons under high pressure and heat
- Work outside in harsh weather conditions
- Wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toe shoes, ear, and eye protection)
- Maintain your face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven )
Preferred Qualifications:
- 7 or more years of experience working as a Process Engineer in the refining or petrochemical industry
- Familiar with Process Systems monitoring and analysis software (i.e. PIVision, TopVIEW, Seeq, etc.)
- Familiar with Process Design software (i.e. HYSIS, MySep, etc.)
- Familiar with Data Analytics software (i.e. PowerBI, etc.)
- Familiar with Reliability Principles (i.e. Weibull Analysis, Reliability Modeling, MTBF, etc.)
- Experience with SAP and Reliability Software (i.e., APM, Meridium)
- Experience developing Cause Maps and leading Root Cause Analysis teams
