This is a multi-level posting and there are 2 positions open. Candidates may be considered for any of the posted levels, depending on their level of experience and depth of expertise.
The senior engineer, gas integrity, provides highly technical engineering services and directs the work of others for data management, pipeline threat assessments and risk analyses, transmission pipeline integrity assessments, and development of capital and operational improvements to reduce natural gas system risk as required by MidAmerican Energy's Transmission Integrity Management Program (TIMP and Distribution Integrity Management Program (DIMP). Responsibilities include data gathering, review, and integration; identifying high consequence areas, understanding and identifying pipeline threats and consequences of failure, completing risk analyses, conducting pipeline integrity assessments and evaluating results, developing preventive and mitigative measures to reduce pipeline risk; overseeing and guiding engineering staff in elements of the integrity management programs, maintaining strict compliance with all elements of, and evaluating and updating elements of integrity management programs as required.
Responsibilities
Provide engineering services for the planning, design, construction and maintenance of project additions to MidAmerican Energy Company's energy delivery system; focus may include planning and budgeting gas and electric systems. (45%) Provide technical project management for all phases of a project including scheduling, design, estimates, engineering specifications, drawings, materials procurement, construction contracts, cost tracking and project cost projections. (20%) Conduct engineering studies and investigations and prepare oral and written reports. (20%) Provide engineering assistance to other departments and perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. (10%) Keep informed of industry issues and technical trends that can benefit MidAmerican Energy Company's business. (5%) Provide technical input to assist in development of project planning. Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. Demonstration of knowledge and understanding of human performance improvement techniques.
Qualifications
This is a multi-level posting.
Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
The engineer II position requires at least one year of engineering experience.
The senior engineer position requires at least five years of engineering experience.
The senior engineer II position requires eight years of industry experience and a PE license. If no PE license, must have ten years as a practicing engineer.
The principal engineer position requires fifteen years of industry experience as a practicing engineer, with experience performing highly technical work of a specialized nature.
Ability to achieve accreditation in corrosion control as defined by the National Association of Corrosion Engineers.
Motivation to stay abreast of changing requirements and industry best practices.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
Working knowledge of federal and state pipeline regulations, including the transmission and distribution integrity rules.
Working knowledge of MidAmerican Energy Company systems that support transmission and distribution integrity efforts, including ArcGIS, Uptime, Synergi, MRP, Leak, WMIS, Oracle, and Delivery Compliance.
Effective organizational skills to meet strict deadlines and to analyze, manage and classify large amounts of data.
