The College of Innovation and Technology offers undergraduate programs in Energy Technology with closely related graduate and undergraduate courses in Mechanical Engineering. Candidates must possess the ability to be versatile across Energy Systems and related Mechanical Engineering programming such as energy systems, energy transfer optimization, and thermodynamics and their applications. Faculty develop experiential learning environments and provide mentorship to students through a combination of course-work and faculty-led research projects. Current research areas include energy systems, power electronics, and thermal management.
The College continues to develop strong ties with regional industries leading to applied research and experiential learning opportunities. Startup packages for the successful candidates include generous funding.
CIT is growing and in the midst of a significant faculty hiring initiative, seeking to fill 25 new positions across three Divisions.
The Department of Technology in the College of Innovation & Technology (CIT) at the University of Michigan-Flint invites applications for one or more tenure-track positions with expertise in any of the subdomains:
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Applicants of all ranks require an earned doctorate in Energy, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering, or a closely-related field by the appointment date. Please indicate your area of expertise in your cover letter. Candidates must show exceptional promise in both research and teaching and are expected to have an appreciation of and commitment to working with faculty and student body. Applicants for tenured Associate and Full Professor must have academic experience demonstrating excellent teaching in experiential settings and a strong scholarship record, with potential for successful grant writing.
1. Ph.D. in Energy, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering, or a closely-related field by the appointment date
2. Record of teaching excellence in face-to-face, online, and experiential settings commensurate with desired rank
3. Record of research and scholarly publications commensurate with desired rank
4. Commitment to working with all parties within the university
5. Record of external funding proposals commensurate with desired rank
6. Record of leadership and mentorship commensurate with desired rank

Mode of Work
Hybrid:
The work requirements allow both onsite and offsite work and an employee has an expected recurring onsite presence. On occasion, the employee may be required and must be available to work onsite more frequently if necessitated by unit leadership or their designee and/or the job requirements.
Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes here .
