Position Overview:
The Junior Mine Engineer will lead short-range mine planning and design, including the development of drill and blast patterns. They will collaborate closely with contractors, the survey team, and mine operations to ensure alignment and timely execution. Field activities such as in-pit surveying, ore delivery coordination, and execution of mine projects will be supported. Overall, they will ensure a safe efficient, and cost-effective implementation of mining plans while maintaining alignment with long-range strategies developed by the technical team. This position offers hands-on experience, cross-functional teamwork, and the chance to contribute to the sustainable extraction of rare earth elements at our mining and processing site in Mountain Pass, California, approximately 50 miles south of Las Vegas.

Working Conditions - Our facility sits at an elevation of 4,700 feet. Employees may be subject to extreme weather conditions when working in an outdoor setting (heat and cold, wind). Work is at an open pit mine or manufacturing/chemical plant setting, which may include exposure to moving mechanical parts, toxic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, explosives, fumes, or airborne particles.
Physical Demands -Manual dexterity; sense of touch; sense of smell; speaking clearly; hearing-speech range; hearing - all ranges; seeing, reading and comprehensions; seeing - distant/near; depth perception; color vision. While performing the job responsibilities, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to stand and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel and to manipulate laboratory equipment. The employee is occasionally required to walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Employees must pass a full-face respiratory fit test. Employees must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must be able to work in PPE level C. - Investigates, researches, and analyzes information and issues related to engineering.
- Collaborates with management and peers to identify and analyze business requirements and the implications for the team; identifies gaps and implements agreed upon solutions.
- Identifies opportunities to enhance performance and develops strategies to overcome challenges and barriers while minimizing risk.
- Implements approved recommendations for maximizing operational efficiencies.
- Implements processes, and practices within engineering that contributes to effective mining operations.
- Proposes new work approaches, methods, and policies to optimize performance and ensure adherence to industry regulations and organizational standards.
- Keeps on top of trends related to engineering and incorporates this information into work assignments and approach.
- Complete any other tasks as needed or as directed by management.
Required Education/Certification/Licensure:
- Degree in Mining/Geological Engineering.
- Prior internships or experience in mining environments.
- Valid Driver's License and good driving record required to drive company vehicles on property.
Desired Qualities:
- Experience in open pit mining preferred.
- Current MSHA part 46 or part 48 trained.
- Basic understanding of open pit mining operations.
- Basic working knowledge of safety rules and regulations.
- Basic knowledge of short range mine planning.
- Good verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to read, understand and speak English.
- Be able to work well with others and adapt to a changing environment.
- Basic understanding of mine planning software (Maptek Vulcan or similar).
- Basic understanding of statistics and Microsoft Excel spreadsheets.
- Basic understanding of Trimble GPS survey devices and field survey techniques.
- Basic understanding of GIS software systems (ArcGIS, QGIS, etc).
- Basic understanding of CAD software systems (AutoCad).
