About the Role
Are you a seasoned process engineer with a strong background in chlor-alkali operations and a passion for leading plant-wide improvements? We're working with a leading industrial operator to identify a Principal Process Engineer to oversee the performance of a major Chlorine plant. This is a high-impact, strategic role offering full leadership over day-to-day operations, optimisation initiatives, and technical excellence across the plant.
In this role, you will act as second-in-command to the Plant Manager and take over management responsibilities in their absence.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Planning
- Support the development and implementation of strategic production plans
- Drive long-term operations and maintenance strategies to meet business objectives
Production Oversight
- Lead and coordinate daily Chlorine plant operations
- Set and optimise production parameters for safety, quality, and efficiency
- Liaise with maintenance teams for troubleshooting and equipment performance
Technical Leadership
- Lead critical operating procedures including plant startup, shutdown, and commissioning
- Provide technical analysis and insights for plant turnaround planning
- Guide operating teams on process adjustments and efficiency improvement
Performance & Improvement
- Track KPIs and performance data to identify gaps and drive improvements
- Lead cost optimisation and ensure alignment with production targets
- Review incident reports and identify root causes for operational continuity
Team Management
- Mentor and develop team capabilities through structured training programmes
- Support performance reviews and encourage a culture of continuous development
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure plant operations align with industry standards and internal policies
- Enforce strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental procedures
Requirements
- Degree in Chemical Engineering or a closely related discipline
- Minimum of 9 years' experience in a petrochemical or chlor-alkali process environment
- Strong technical understanding of Chlorine and related chemical processes
- Demonstrated ability to lead high-performing teams in a complex plant environment
- Skilled in root cause analysis, process optimisation, and shutdown coordination
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong commitment to HSE principles and safe working practices
