Overview

The Gas technician II is responsible for the construction, maintenance, and operations of the City's gas distribution system. Under supervision of the Crew Foreman, installs and repairs gas mains and services which involve pipe fitting, welding, making taps, fusion of Poly pipe, constructing off-sets and any other related work as required. They will supervise crew in absence of the Foreman. They will drive and operate semi - heavy maintenance and construction equipment, and perform other related work as required.

Responsibilities
• Keep crew truck clean and assist with inventory of parts and supplies to keep stocked
• Clean parts and tools; perform daily maintenance and/ or calibration of equipment
• Use small hand tools, tapping, and stopple equipment
• Perform semi-skilled and common labor work such as paint and/ or wrap pipe, cutting and threading pipe, pipefitting and assists in other pipeline maintenance as required
• Operates backhoe, trenching machine, winch truck, air compressor, dump truck and other semi-heavy maintenance and construction equipment
• Inspects equipment and makes adjustments and minor repairs to maintain equipment
• Prepare tap cards and/ or various inspection reports and documentation in accordance with Department procedures and/ or regulatory requirements
• Maintains map books
• Operates various trucks, trailers, ditchers, air compressors, welding machines and equipment
• Installs and repairs mains, services, and meter loops. Removes and/ or exchanges gas meters. Checks for gas leaks. Conducts turn ons and offs. Checks for stopped meters and house-line pressures using water manometer
• Conducts pressure tests, purges and puts in service new and existing gas mains
• Tests and witnesses gate station meters with supplier to ensure accurate measurement of purchased gas for the City of Corpus Christi
• Maintain and oversee odorization logs for accuracy and overall odor additive totals. Ensure proper refill procedures are adhered to and witness correct transfer of odorant additives to city odorizers
• Performs routine maintenance on telemetry equipment, including calibration, troubleshooting and repair
• Inspect, overhauls, repairs and maintains large volume gas meters and regulators
• Calibrates, adjusts/ repairs and maintains gas volume correcting devices for large volume gas meters
• Under moderate supervision and with the use of an electronic meter prover, perform measurement proofs and make accuracy adjustments on large volume gas meters
• Program and install MTUs
• Check and adjust gas pressure on large volume meters; calibrate and test meter facilities
• Oversee Commercial Meter activities, including sets, moves, maintenance, sizing, leaks and pressure problems
• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
• Non - Exempt - Full-Time
• Non rotating 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 4:00 pm; must be available to work additional hours as needed

Minimum Qualifications
• High School Diploma/ GED
• Three (3) years of experience

Licenses and Certifications

Required
• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
