Wood is recruiting for a Alarm Rationalization Engineer to to join its Projects team focusing on engineering for the refinery petrochemical industry.
Position is based in Oman for a long-term assignment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Alarm Rationalization Engineer will facilitate AMR review where all possibilities and optimisation of the design.

Typical responsibilities
1. Technical Knowledge and Process Understanding
- Process Engineering Expertise: In-depth understanding of the processes being monitored (e.g., polymers, refineries, petrochemicals) to effectively identify critical alarms and their triggers.
- Control Systems Knowledge: Familiarity with Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) for configuring and managing alarms.
- Instrumentation Knowledge: Strong understanding of sensors, transmitters, and field devices to evaluate alarm reliability and accuracy.
- Alarm Management Standards: Proficiency in relevant industry standards such as ISA-18.2 (Management of Alarm Systems for the Process Industries) and EEMUA 191 (Alarm Systems - A Guide to Design, Management, and Procurement).
2. Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills
- Root Cause Analysis: Ability to assess alarm data to identify nuisance, chattering, or redundant alarms.
- Risk Assessment: Skilled in performing risk-based prioritization of alarms using appropriate methodologies.
- Data Analysis: Proficient in analyzing historical alarm trends to detect alarm floods, recurring patterns, and areas for suppression or rationalization.
3. Software and Tools Proficiency
- DCS Systems: Experience working with platforms such as Honeywell, Yokogawa, and Schneider.
- Alarm Management Tools: Familiarity with specialized tools such as Honeywell DynAMo and Yokogawa ARA.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in Control and Automation (B.Sc./M.Sc./B.Eng.) or equivalent.
- Should have significant experience in Alarm Rationalisation projects.
- Shall have minimum 12 years relevant work experience .
- Middle East is added advantage.
