To support our mission, we are seeking a Storytelling Fellow to join our Offshore Wind Energy team. The Fellow will provide content creation, storytelling, research, and advocacy support for projects throughout our program portfolio. The Offshore Wind Energy Storytelling Fellow will report to the Offshore Wind Energy team's Communications Manager and work alongside the rest of the program team to perform and synthesize subject-matter research, create engaging written and visual communications products, expand and update online tools and resources, and produce materials to support the program. These materials educate a wide variety of NWF audiences including the public, NWF members, affiliates, partners, industry, and policymakers.

This position is part of NWF's fellowship program. NWF Fellows must be available to work a full-time schedule. This 11-month position offers $25 per hour plus core benefits.

Principle Duties (major areas of responsibility):

  • Research, write, and create communications products to support our offshore wind energy and related advocacy priorities in coastal states and nationally.
  • Assist in the development and creation of state-specific offshore wind content and storytelling campaigns.
  • Contribute to content development of various formats including blogs, video, ArcGIS, and more.
  • Translate and edit complex issues and reports into compelling and accessible content.
  • Write and edit text for the offshore wind energy website and newsletter and contribute content to other NWF outlets as needed.
  • Participate in regional and state specific offshore wind communications coalitions.
  • Draft social media and online content to inform and engage the Federation's seven million advocates and members about the responsible development of offshore wind energy.
  • Perform administrative duties and help shared office tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Passion for addressing climate change in creative and pragmatic ways that allow wildlife and people of all backgrounds to survive and thrive
  • Excellent research and analytical abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, including the ability to clearly synthesize scientific or technical information for a variety of audiences
  • Understanding of story fundamentals and a keen sense of newsworthiness
  • Ability to communicate to a wide range of audiences and communities
  • Self-starter able to work effectively in both a team-based and independent environment
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to multi-task and handle competing priorities
  • A degree in communications, marketing, public affairs, or a related field, or at least 1-2 years of relevant professional or volunteer experience.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Experience with basic graphic design software like Adobe Creative Suite and Canva preferred

Travel Requirements:

This role will require occasional travel, approximately 1-2 trips per quarter.

Location and Work Mode:

This position will have the option of being based in Washington, DC, but we welcome remote candidates. Physical Requirements of the Job:

Remaining in a normal seated or standing position for extended periods; reaching and grasping by extending hand(s) or arm(s); dexterity to manipulate objects with fingers, for example, using a keyboard; communication skills using the spoken word; ability to see and hear within normal parameters; ability to move about the workspace.
